Some advice please!

I am lucky enough to be booked onto a weeks riding course soon and am taking my TB with me (the course is called Improve your Showjumping, so I am hoping that we will both improve!). I have never taken him anywhere for longer than a few hours to a show, so am after some advice.

Red (ex-racehorse) travels well, but tends to be somewhat excitable in new places - he is getting better but still has a tendency to get a little stressed in new places.

I intend to take a couple of containers of our water, just in case he decides to be fusy about that, and I am taking him down on the Saturday to give him Sunday to recouperate before the course starts on the Monday. I am taking food and some hay ( I may not have any room in the horse box for him!) so that he has as much familiar tasting stuff as possible.

Can anyone recommend any other precautions to take to try and get him used to his new surroundings and not get too stressed by the whole thing.

Rescue Remedy is a food supplement isn't it? Is it a one off treatment or do I need to feed it for some time before?

hi Sarah,

Rescue Remedy is a herbal liquid for any animal (or humans). you can get it in Boots or Holland & Barrett. You just add a few drops to your horse's water the night before, in his breakfast, onto an apple and don't forget to swig out of the bottle yourself!

It really is amazing stuff, and it only costs about £3 for a small bottle (that lasts for ages as the dose is only 4 drops, no matter on the size of person or horse or cat!).

bye!

Can I feed it to him in large doses all the time!!!!!:D :D :D

Loony ex-racehorses!!

Thank you for your advice - I will try and acquire some this weekend so I can try it out on him before the 'holiday' - just in case he turns out to have an adverse reaction to it!
