:) well, this week ive been ridding 3 years:) and did bare back ridding for the 1st time :D :D . I expected to hit the deck in no time. I used the mounting block to mount, Brode is a good 17H cob.{he's a Gentle giant and so willing}
Ok so we only walked for 500 mtr's to his paddock.
I can say it was so nice to 'feel' the horse moving so freely.
So this is another little milestone for me and forward we go with just the odd set backs.
Anyway, the ladies...
{the ladies grr, {oops!.} erm the ladies did rising trot bare back and so very very very elagent they did look.
Maybe next time bare back I will try this too, fingers crossed im not hitting the deck, any advise.
Fred.
:D :)

One thing I find useful in bareback is to keep your legs and feet in the same position as if you were in a saddle. (Knees bent, heels down, etc.)
Congrats on this new experiance! You'll be trotting in no time!! :D

Well Done Fred!
We'll have you cantering bareback over the Chase next ;)
With trotting you have to keep yourself as loose as possible, with a big wide cob is shouldn't be too uncomfortable (I wouldn't even attempt it on razorback Christa!) just feel the movement and don't tense up - tense = slips and slides...usually off!

 :)
No bare back this morning, Tom was on top form for a whole two hours and were both smilling from ear to ear.. Will let you know how I go next time. The 1st thing I did was see how I could grip :o Fingers crossed no razor back horse...
So keep relaxed I will:)
By the way the ridding centre may soon have a Andalusion X joining them:) :) , every one is exited.
Im sure we will still love all the section D and coloured cobs too:)
and especially Sophie;)

Good for you, FRED!:) When I first came to my instructor, Cathy, I was a nervous wreck who badly needed confidence. She responded by taking away my saddle for the next month! Unorthodox, maybe, but it worked - my confidence rebounded very quickly.:)
Although, if you're willing to vault onto 17hh with no saddle, it sounds like you have bags of confidence already.
I found my balance by using the horse's shoulder muscles kind of like knee rolls - I'd sit forward enough so that my legs just sort of fit behind my mare's shoulders, so I could let them totally relax and didn't need to grip on. Then just pretend you're dancing the rhumba - stretch up tall and let your hips do all the moving. ;)
Have fun!

Well done you, isn't it a wonderful feeling? Relax is the name of the game, just roll with the horse and you've got it. No, don't roll off, just stay with it. L

Nice one Fred, it's a long way down from there too:)
My first experience of bareback was on Rio last year, she was very fat and it was like sitting on a big soft sofa. She's a lot fitter and slimmer now, Nat sometimes rides her in from the field and says she's not so comfortable at all these days:D

Oooooh Fred. Do continue to ground us all in reality - please.
It's got to be the next thing I do with Kerry. That feel is something I have missed so much since I rode as a child.

:)
I wish I had done this earlier because while yes you can 'feel' while mounted on the sadle, bare back makes you really think about whats going on underneath you.
Its a shame I think that lessons rarely include bare back, even just at walk, because its so much more than just fun.
Good luck with Kerry:) ...and we are still waiting for photos!;)
Rio doe's look good Yann.
Well on the subject of photo....:eek: I did have a slight communication problem with Tom on Saturday, {yikes and some one took photos of us too.}
If the photos are ok:o I may post one, maybe 'caption'
time again:o next week.
Peace your instructor sounds ace:)

It is great isn't it fred !! I recently did a bit of bareback riding two different horses on the same day, on the roads too, it was both scary but excellant and such a confidence boost to your riding,
well done Go fred go :D

OMG - I rode bareback in my lesson last nite for the first time!!! It was so excited - I haven't fallen off yet and I was really expecting it last nite - we walked around for a while just so I got the feel of it and then my instructor grabbed my horses bridle and we were off at a trot!!!
I couldn't believe it - I was staying on AND it was pretty comfortable!!! Then she left me to it and I was trotting BY MYSELF with no saddle. Think it was my best lesson yet (been riding for six months) - can't wait till next week now :D

Its fun:) and I think horse enjoy the change too.
I think for me to ride in the snow, it would have to be on a fjord:)
Well im glad horse never played rugby because we would never stand a chance against them:D

C'mon then Fred, time you started playing horseball. Can't expect your nag to play rugby all by himself now can you. And thats bareback too! L

I'm green with jealousy. I can do it, but I tend to avoid bareback riding on my high-withered thoroughbred. Ouch. I'll have to try one of those bareback pads sometime.

:) L to be honest there were times I wondered if there were horse in the opposing teams... im well past all that:)
Kedwards,
My neice is taking on loan a TB for next 12 month, or more.
He's 9yrs old and I must get north to see him.The fjord is on hold because I just don't have enough time. My neice is nuts about TB and was devastated when she lost her's.
Will let you know if Im allowed to ride him too, {I would not try bare back because I don't know him} I don't know his colour, and will post photo too.

I jsted started cantering bareback a couple days ago bout for me anyway it was easier to canter then trot.(maybe its cause tbone is bouncy). Is jumping as easy as the canter?:D and fred I hope you get to trot next time maybe even canter.:D

Keep going with the bareback, Fred. Improves one's seat no end.
No need to be too adventurous to start with, walk is fine. Such a lovely feeling.
Jonto is coming down shortly, are you coming too? L
