Flexing at the poll

Heather after reading your books and trying to put your words of wisdom into practice, my horse is soft and flexs beatifully when in a circle, but he comes above the bit when he is tracking in straight line. Any ideas why and how I can get him going nicely in a straight line?

It is so difficult to tell you what to do Paul, without seeing what is going on. Most horses will flex easier on a bend. I think it is probably a case of you not timing things quite right to achieve the relaxtion of the jaw, and backing it up with the lower leg at the right moment.
