My guinea pig Nicholas the Wonderpig died this morning :(.

He was 8 and a bit, I've had him since I was 15 and it's going to be really strange without his little voice bothering me for beans :(. It was very sudden, he'd been acting a little strange all morning (hanging around, ignoring his food) and when I picked him up he went frantic for 30 seconds then floppy and died 10 minutes later. I am so so pleased that I was holding him in his last few moments and didn't just find him in his cage.

RIP little piggie, I will miss you lots. Thank you for giving me my 2 gorgeous piggie babies (now 6 months old) to remember you by.

Oh rest in peace little pig. 8 is a great age for a guinea pig, he must have had a lovely life.

And to sire little piglets too! Lucky boy.

Thank you both.

He had the biggest character of any piggie I've ever known, I feel silly for being so cut up about 'just' a guinea pig but he really was special.

I wasn't sure at the time whether breeding from him was a good idea, it was SO stressful and I vowed never to do it again but now that all I have are his girlfriend and beautiful babies I am so so glad that I did.

It sounds like he had a lovely guinea pig life, long and contented, with offspring leave behind, and a quick end cuddled by someone trusted. You have the comfort of knowing that he was happy and well practically to the end without any of those awful 'end of life' ageing decisions to make.
Well done you, and RIP gpiggy.
