Hi Everyone

If you have read my other thread Taking the Plunge!!! you will read that I have taking the plunge into buying a horse.

Well we went for a lesson yesterday and to also inform the stables of what we were doing and to set up a contract with them.

So me and Tim we full of the joys of spring about the horse (which i find out now is an Irish/Arab) and were telling some of the staff at the stables who were quite blunt and I have got to say upset me a bit and said that Arab horses were no good to buy they were to unpredictable.

Then we spoke to our instructor who had had 3 and she said that they were fine!!!

So without upsetting anyone too much can someone give me some advise please THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!

Some people should mind their own business. I have had 2 arabs on loan and they were the best little horses i have ever had.

One was an endurance horse and he was amazing everyone at our yard wanted to ride him and he was only 5. I have had cobs that have put me through hell and back trying to break them but my arab was one in a million.

I have highlands now and they give me more trouble than sol or keira ever did. I broke keira myself and although there were some problems along the way it was nothing you don't expect from any other breed.

As for an irish/arab you have the stability and calmness of the Irish mixed with the endurance and agility of the arab. I think it is a lovely cross (pic would be nice please:D )

So don't listen to the others (horsey people sometimes don't have any tact) they are probebly just jealous. Get to the know the horse yourself before you judge it and then get out there and show them all what a wonderful horsey you have

I would just see how it goes - don't be afraid to ask for help or advice if you need it and you will be fine!

Arabs, TBs etc can be a handful, but as happychik says, you have a cross, so you do have the calming Irish influence there!

Sounds like your instructor would be a good person to seek advice from when you need it, and that she would be supportive.

Best of luck!

the sweetest, calmest, most amazing horse and the horse that taught me to trot was an arab. i don't think he ever spooked when i rode him, or to go tough. and he was green, he didn't know how to canter very well when i was taking walk trot lessons on him. my instructer also had a great little jumper arab who was the best little jumper! don't listen to those people at your barn, you riding instructer seems great. good luck

Thank you to all for the advise about my future horse.

We are going to see her again today and as soon as I can I will send in some pics.

I can tell you though she is such a girly girly!!!!!!

My boyfriend rode her and said that he couldn't believe the difference from the ones that we have been riding she is soo responsive.

So one again a VERY BIG THANK YOU!!!!!!!:D

Arabs and TBs are "hot" bloods. Your quarter horses, morgans, paints, appaloosas, etc. are warm bloods. Your draft horses are cold bloods. Because Arabs are "hot" they get bad reputations.

Arabs are well known for their never ending supply of energy (Why they make great endurance horses). To be honest, when you get someone who is lacking confidence or a trained seat/hands, any horse can become unpredictable - has nothing to do with breed.

Judge the horse, not it's bloodlines! Good luck.

Sounds like you have an instructor who understands Arabs.:) At our barn, we have two who are so reliable they are used as beginner lesson horses. Arabs do have plenty of energy, but I've also found them to be sensitive souls with a real desire to please the people they love.:)

well from what i've heard everywhere, arabs are what some people call hotbloods, who can get very excited and are unpredicatable, but personally, I find arabs charming and they're really friendly and curious creatures. I know some arabs that are just calm little school ponies, who are small and swaybacked, but have charm. And then you've got your fancy shmancy show ponies, but if you get to know your horse, it is not really 'unpredictable'. Frankly, I'd say those people are just plain jealous!

iv loved horses since i was 5 and the arab has ALWAYS been my favourite and iv read up loads about them. They are 'hot blooded' but thats y they cross them with breeds like the irish but purebred or cross the ones iv met are sweeties and those other people either dont no much about arabs or are just plain jealous:p
