size really doesnt matter to me. Its heart that counts. Its the same as looks. look it seabiscuit, he was small but boy he had tallent could out run the tallest horses.

it really is the size of the heart, not hte horse. Sam is a 15.2hh appy who outjumped a 17.1hh WB!
i clicked 15hh-16hh, i will ridie anything, and have ridden 11hh-18.1hh. i feel more comfy on 15.1 and up because of my long legs. but one of my fav horses to ride at camp is like 11.3hh or something like that, he is a shetland pony with a HUGE jump and a HUGE heart :) though on 2' jumps whenever i made him jump from the trot my foot would hit or even knock the pole lol. if i let him canter he would power over it enough that my foot didn't hit it lol

lol! I agree!!! HERE HERE!!! Ive ridden a pony who could clear anything and then i get on a 15-16 horse who refuses to jump at all. When she did it was NOT(!!!!!!!!!!!) smooth sailing. I ended up around her neck then the next jump sitting on her neck twice. ouch! It depends where their heart is really!:D:D:D

To me size doesn't really matter, but if I had to be matched size wise, it'd be 15-16hh for me. I don't really care that much though.

I like my horses between 16 and 17 hands and somewhat slender. It's what I look best on since i have such long legs. But i think for my ideal breed the andalusian they are around 15/16 hands, so somewhere between there I guess...:)

I prefer 15-16 as i can get my legs around them and be effective. my currant horse is 17.2 and his ribcage is so big i look tottaly stupid and cant touch him with my legs very well. Not that i want to kick him but only a little bit of my leg touches.

14-15hh is my ideal, big enough to carrry me but small not to hurt my back and legs when i'm getting on and off! at that size you usually get a pony attitude as well. my current horse is 14.1hh but is very deep in the girth and round so she is perfect for me and takes my leg completely

I don't like riding anything over 14.2hh. I like to be able to vault onto a pony, and I think they have more character than the big guys. Dolly is ideal for me because she's so placid, and sweet, and intelligent, and 13.1hh! :D

anything between 13.2hh and 14.2hh suits me fine. I also prefare the chunky pony. As long as its a pony, I'm happy.

I think many horses have just as much character as ponies!!!!
I'll ride pretty much anything given the chance, although I feel kinda dumb on anything less than 13.2, and a bit like a pea on anything bigger than 17 hands. I picked 15 - 16 hands though, although ideally it'd be 14 - 16 hands.

15 - 16, although that's just what I spend most time on. I don't mind that much.
Out of curiosity, has anyone ever seen a horse >21h? That'd be HUGE!

i look and feel silly on anything under 13hh or bigger that 16.2hh. Perfect height for me is about 14-15.2hh.

I chose 15-16hh but I would as easily ride anything 14-16hh. Mostly I am looking for a horse that can do anything with me on their back and I just feel as though this height range is most suitable for that. You find the good allround horses tend to be more in the middle range of heights, so that is what I tend to steer towards.
Mind you there are variations from horse to horse, and I always try to take a horse based on his merits rather than any preconcieved notion. With horses if you assume things you are destined to be proved wrong.:p

Smaller horses are much easier to get on. There i a new 17hh at the ridin school and we all need help to get on it.

I chose 17-18 because that's what I like to ride - I love the feeling of it!! And of the few biggies I've had the chance to ride, they were the kindest (is that actually normal, or just luck?) However when I buy (when, when, still hoping) I'd probably go for 15-16 coz any bigger than that and I'd need a cherry picker to groom them and give them lots of cuddles LOL

i prefer a horse above 16hh. i feel more confident on bigger horses becase thats all iv ever ridden. the only experience iv had on smaller horses or ponies was on a 13hh pony and he bucked me off because he was a little bugger lol. as kit kat says i love the feel of bigger horses. even if it is further to fall :D
i just like the strides of horses with longer legs, i found the pony to bouncy. probably because i wasnt used to it though. also im quite tall so fit better on bigger horses.

As long as it's strong enough to carry me and deep enough to take my leg I'm happy to ride it:)
Our own horse is about 15.1 and I'm nearly 6ft tall but she's also ridden by my 8 year old daughter so is a compromise heightwise:)
I've ridden horses from 14 to 18 hands in my brief riding career, they all have something to offer.

Like everyone is saying, its the size of heart that counts. I can comfortably ride a 14.2-16.0 horse/pony with no problems, although the highest I've ridden was bareback, a 17.0 Belgian cross I think.

I prefer ponies to horses but will ride anything - it is personality that counts more than height or looks. I like the pony personality and height wise I prefer 15hh and under as I am only 5ft with short legs - if I ride anything over 15.2hh I feel like my legs are not reaching below the saddle flaps:rolleyes: My riding pony is 13.2hh and my driving ponies are 9.3hh and absolutely brilliant. I still maintain there is not a horse in the world to beat a good, well trained shetland pony :)

Size doesn't matter to me- last week I jumped from riding an 11-hand pony to a 17.2 hand horse! It's the personality that matters to me, and every horse has personality, regardless of their height.
