Hi there,
I am having lots of... erm... fun, schooling my new horse, the trouble is I am used to riding horses that have already been taught most of the tricks in the book - this one not only doesnt know the tricks he doesnt really see why he should have to do them in the 1st place! Despite that - I still love him to bits. He is very forward going only has 2 speeds, fast and faster, we are starting to get more control and as part of my efforts I want to teach him rein back. I can get him to back up handling from the ground, I can get him to back up if I stand him head on to the fence as a guide, but free standing he will go sideways, up, any way but backwards. Is he being cheeky or does really not understand I use the same voice command and same aids as backing up from the fence. I think we did get one step back once but nothing since should I be firm?
He is 7 but his previous owner has not done much with him.
HELP PLEASE..
thanks
Harriet
