Hi everyone- its me Sparkly- the one who asked about riding gear!

I just had my very first riding lesson- and I LOVED IT!!!!! Ok, I'm on a high, so I hope you don't mind me rambling a bit!

I learnt to walk on, halt and turn of course-all those beginner things you're probably all bored stiff! The instructor also let me have a go at the sitting trot to get a feel for whats to come- I actually found myself rising out of the seat without trying- is that ok, I thought you're supposed to sit still on this one, but I honestly couldn't! Forgive my ignorance!

The instructor said I did well at the trot, considering I've never even sat on a horse before- sorry, I'm just really happy that I managed it!

I also did an exercise where I had to take my feet out of the stirrups and let them hang loose. When I first put my feet in the stirrups, it felt quite strange, but after having them in there for a while, removing my feet felt awkward! I suppose its just that you get used to the feeling!

As a final part of the lesson, I learnt how to remove Abe's (the beautiful horse I rode) tack- thank god he was patient enough for me to puzzle over all those buckles!

Anyway, thank you to all of you who helped with my clothing dilemma!

It was GR8, Love Sparkly

PS. One final thing I learnt- you NEED jodphurs! Seams KILL.

Yay Sparkly! :D

Glad your first lesson went so well - welcome to an addiction/obsession!!

Riding without stirrups can be a bit scary but it's the best way of learning to keep your balance - not that I've managed to master it yet ;) !

Anyway, I'm really glad you had such a good time - when's your next lesson?

That's great that you had such a good time! As Lovecat said, riding without stirrups (also riding bareback) is great for balance. Don't worry, you'll figure out all those buckles soon enough. :D

So pleased for you Sparkly, sounds like it all went well for you.
The trotting thing is hard to explain..the idea is not to bump about on the horses back (more comfortable for you both). Sounds like you're a natural :)
I'm very pleased that the instructor took time to teach you about un~tacking, so many don't bother. It's good to learn what go's where & what things do.
You NEVER stop learning as everyone here will tell you.

WELL DONE ;)

Wow, fantastic. You got rising trot first go - some folks take ages to get this. Welcome to the clan of the poor and obsessed. Please do keep us posted with your progress.

Best wishes

Thats GREAT! I'm really happy for you. I can still remember my first lesson and felt the exact same way! it feels so good, and the sense of accomplishment is beyond compare. Good job on the rising trot too (some take months to get the hang of it!) and good luck with further riding lessons! you will be hooked for life now, I'm sure.:) :)
