Thankyou for all your replies to my recent questions. I thought I would give an update on my first lesson today. I had a private 1/2 hour on Secret, not sure how high but a chunky skewbald with a calm ploddy nature. I started off on a lunge rein and for the first 10 minutes the really nice instructor (who turned out to be the owner of the riding school) worked out what I could remember from over 20 years ago. (It is a this point that I should point out that three years ago at the ripe old age of 29, I had multiple blood clots in my legs, and suffered a small stroke, which has affected my balance and memory, and being still alive to be able to do anything at all is a small miracle!) Within 10 minutes of the lesson starting, the instructor unclipped the lunge rein and I was on my own. I was able to do a rising trot, first holding onto the saddle and then just onto the reins, I was able to give aids with my legs, albeit a bit uncoordinated, but Secret was obliging enough to not look at me with a 'what on earth is she doing' look! I felt really chuffed that I had done it and the instructor said that I spent the 1/2 hour with a huge grin on my face. My son James had his first lesson today as well and was in a small group lead rein lesson, I just caught the end of his lesson and he was grinning from ear to ear as well. We both can't wait for next Friday which is lesson number 2!!! Oh well hot bath beckoning as umm legs and behind a tad stiff!

So pleased you have recovered enough to dare taking up riding.
If your real love is the horses as much as riding them, just to be close beside one and feel its massive presence is thrilling - like being in the Hall of Pillars at Karnak. Enjoy.
