I like talking to everyone and I'm 11 about 6 months till I'm 12 but I like every single one of the chat boards I even sometimes go on mature riders is it a crime? although that is a good sugestion dude. *offers everyone chocolate chipcookies and saves all the gingerbread ones for herself*

i think that you are missing the point. it would not be the only place you could post but it would be somewhere where things generally only of interest to younger members could be posted. there has been a lot of posts recently about school, exams, future careers which would have been ideal for that kind of area.
the has also been some misunderstandings recently with adults not realising the age of people that they are replying too, or of younger members posting things that are pretty much guaranteed to cause an adverse reaction with the older members of the board.
its all irrelevant anyway as the mods said no :(

That's a shame, I think always having a teenage section always helps on msg boards, for example on SU.
Oh well

yeah, thats where i first saw it. i used to only used nr but then i found other msg boards and now tend to use su a little more than nr as i can pick the sections i read, and avoid my blood pressure rising through reading posts aimed at other teenagers.

As a 31-yr old, I am all in favour of there being a teenage section.
You can spell however you like there using your incomprehensible text abbreviations.

Some threads get taken over by teenagers, or by people who talk like teenagers.... <grins, ducks and runs as the teenagers attack>

I too think a teenage section is a great idea.... but I also have to agree with what Mike and the other moderators have said on other threads on this topic.... that a 'teenage' section would not only attract teenagers, but sadly older people who's intentions may not be so honourable as NR is used to.....
At the moment those of us who are older and think there should be a teenage section are doing so to avoid the text speak and 'chat'.... not because of any nasty motives... much as I hate the text speak, I would hate it even more if any of our younger members got into trouble:(
Besides which, very often the younger members have a lot to offer all the forums here- if there was a teenage section they may all scuttle off to that and not let us oldies have the benefit of their vast collective knowledge and experience!:D

I have said in another thread hear recently that i dont think it would be such a good idea.
First becuase of the older people it may attract that have different ideas than horses. (but i dont see how a teenage section would attract that ? if some one wants to pm someone, they can do it through the normal boards, not just the teenage section. It maybe targetted but...)
Secondly I think it would soo turn into a general chat about what ever and who ever. Perosnally i wouldnt go on it anyway, but would that mean that i cant go anywhere else ?? I prefer to talk to alot of people from all over the worl with a bundle of knowledge from everyone.
I can think of loads of people who use text speak and it annoys me a bit too. Just becuase some one is a teen doesnt mean they always talk like that (or shoudl i say type). I know i dont, ever.
There are teen on tihs board however who dont use it at all (including myself) and may feel partly to blame for it.
And about the older members not knowing who hey reply to and their age etc. I dont thikn it matters. Typing and writing is hard to read anyway, you dont know if its sarcastic, serious or in a mean way. Kids are more likely to take it the wrong way (i admit) but we all have profiles with ages in them, so if it is a touchy a subject thenw e can always jsut check ;)
Thsi is what i feel. Please dont quote me on any of that ?

I don't see that having a separate teenage section makes attracting weirdos any less or more likely. The moderators do an excellent (and largely thankless) job, but they should not carry the responsibility of monitoring NR all the time. These boards are fairly free and open (I am glad to say) and all users are responsible for their safety irrespective of their age.
If some of the younger members do have anything useful to offer, I have to admit that I don't see it as soon as I see "teenager speak", my eyes automatically skip to the next post. Other younger members (recognisable by their ability to write in English) are knowledgeable and worthy of attention.

Unfortunately james, not every has good grammer. My writing and grammer are probally horrid so does tihs mean you would miss out my post becuase of this ??
Becasue of the different ages and abilities to read and write, not all posts are going to be 'adult' like.
I try my best to write correctly and use the right grammer but soemtimes no one can help it.
Now this repliy, becuase you cant hear me can be taken B*tchily or normally. I hope for you to take this as a reply and not a snap at you :)

Well i'm with Jay.o sorry and no offence to the people who want it but i think that its stupid.... James: Mobile Phones? is that the best you could think of? lol he he he I'm sorry but not all teenagers are like that lol. Jay.o made the perfect point:) I don't think that its really nessesary to talk "slang".

A few spelling mistakes and minor grammatical errors are one thing (we all make them), but I am talking about the posts that are verging on illiterate.
I decide whether to read posts based upon a snap judgement of their value, and a large part of that judgement is the author's ability to express themselves clearly. If they cannot do that, why should I give their opinion of (say) leg aids any credence?

Ok fair enough, spelling mistakes and errors are ok, like you say everyone makes them ! however, this didnt come across in your other reply (well it seemed that way to me)

I completely agree with, although I try and read everyones' replies and views.
Sorry if i did come across 'snappy' in amyway. It just seemed from your earlier reply that nayone with a phone or is a teenager, speak text language. I just wanted to point out that that is not always true !

James I can see your point as some of the posts can be meaningless chit chat, but try not to make snap judgements and at least skim read the posts by our younger NR users. Although they are younger and may not be able to write as well it doesn't necessarily mean that their advice isn't sound or that there questions aren't important to them.
Some of them have many years of experience in the horse world and have been able to offer me good advice and at the same time I hope that some of my experience can be of help to them. I am sure that you as an 'older' more worldly wise man also has a lot to offer them :D ;) And I use the word older with some caution as I am the same age as you!!! :D
We all have different qualities to offer everyone on this board and everyone should be appreciated for the whatever input they can no matter how big or small.
God I hope my spelling and grammer are ok now - you have all made me paranoid!! ;)

Hey, some of us wrinklies have mobiles too, you know....
I'm glad we're not having a teenage section - as it is, I like reading everyone's posts, and often I don't know how old people are, but if there were a teenage section I'd probably not bother to read it. If that makes sense.

SU is saddleup another horse forum! sorry i know this thread old but thought i'd reply to katieB!
i think a teenager section would be a bad idea as it would attracted alot of otha ppl who wudn't talk horses! i myself beign 16, do use text lanuage but i try not to on here as there are so many ppl on here who are from different countrys and english may not eb there first lanuage so it would be even harder for them to understand!

I think a teen section would be inviting a lot of off topic posts, and the moderators would have a big job on their hands. By the way, I CAN'T STAND text language at all! Oh yeah.. I'm 16 too.

I just find it really irritating and it's sort of like cheap talk if you understand what I mean..?? Itz like diz nd is vry hrd 2 rd 4 xmple. Ok, you can tell I've never used it before, but I really can't stand it! It's also really bad grammer, the spelling is aweful.

i'm 15, and i don't think i would use the teenage section if there was one. NR is a wealth of information about horses + tons of riding, care, training etc. tips. what difference does age make? okay, some teens prefer the abbreviated language, but not all teens! are you suggesting a section for us, just so we can go crazy using faster computer gramar?
i love being able to get everyone's point of view on my posts, not just people my age, and i like hearing everyone's news, again, not just people my age's.
so, there's an american, 'mobile-carrying' teen's opinion. everyone run! :D

I'm 14 and I can't stand "slang" abbreviations. Why? They're hard to read, look trashy and they annoy me. *My opinion only..*
I don't think a teenager section is a good idea or is needed. What is the difference between posting a horse question in the area for everyone or in a teenager section? I value everyone's opinion, and I think getting responses from older members adds quality and is very helpful. What is the point in a teenager section? I think everyone gets along well here, regardless of people's ages.
And I'm not having a go at anyone, just sharing my opinion :)
Note... attack with mobile phones??? there seem to be a lot of stereotypes regarding teenagers here...

Ha! Since we are having such issues with bandwidth, teenagers who want this so much, why don't you pay for it?
If you actually LOOK at the mature riders section, every single thread in there is horse related.
Thanks, thats my 2 cents stuck in for the new year!:o

As we've said before we won't have a teen section. Some other sites do cater for it and that's fine but we can't afford the time and effort it would need for moderation.
