hello!

On Saturday Stewart and I had a fab lesson with Nicola Janas (Nic J from this board). I was keen that Nicola should ride both Doodle and Tango just to see what they are like. The first lesson was to be on Doodle so Nic rode her first. Doodle was trying to be naughty and push to see how much she could get away with but she was soon put back on the straight and narrow. Nicola said we'd done the work in getting her to move forwards, now we need to contain the energy and try to get her to bend laterally and longitudinally. I have never needed to use my legs so much as when trying to get Doodle to bend on a circle! She was getting the knack of it after a while though.

We started the lesson with Doodle in a rubber snaffle but swopped it for the rubber pelham after a while to make our job easier and that really helped. BY the end of the lesson we were getting a few strides of a nice balanced trot so a lot of progress was made.

We then moved on to Tango. Again, Nic rode first and we had to virtually lever her out the saddle after her go so that we could have a lesson! Tango was in top form and Nicola was grinning from ear to ear riding her, i felt like a very proud mum! Stewart then did some work on trot (hopefully some of the piccies I took will work out so i can post them soon) then i did some work on travers. Tango was trying so hard to please me that she got a bit over keen and started trying to do half pass across the school instead of travers - I like having a clever horse! After that we had a go at canter. Tango was a bit 'full of beans' for this so we did a lot of galloping and a lot of laughing! I did manage a short stretch of a sensible canter, then we decided that really that was enough for one day.

I did take care to check the boot of Nicola's Discovery to check that she hadn't bundled Tango into it before departing!

bye!
