:( Just had my 3rd lesson on the lunge, and wasn't really happy with my rising trot, last week I seemed to be better, but this time couldn't keep the rythym going, kept rising too high or not in sync, think my hormones are playing me up today though!!!
My instructor Lyn is going to get me to do the trot without stirrups next week, sounds scary!! I think alot of my problem is that I am very unsupple and slightly overweight.
If anyone has any tips on making my hips more supple - I would be ever so grateful.:(

The more you ride, the more supple you'll get!
Don't worry, this happens from time to time - your relatively new to this and practice makes perfect!
Try doing some 'hip stretching' exercises. Yoga is very good if you're not very supple. You should really stretch before any exercise to warm up your muscles (you should warm down too - not that I do anymore!).
Trotting without stirrups is very good for your balance and position- don't worry, you'll not be expected to do this without holding on the first time. If you are at all worried, just let your instructor know!
Good luck for your next lesson.

Also take look at Heather's advice in Enlightened Equitation about rising trot, I think there is a link on here somewhere. I found it very helpful (the video is excellent). I wont try and explain here but you have to think more about going foward and back not just up and down. Also I've found it depends a lot on the horse - some are a lot easier than others (look out for those pesky ponies!!!).
Good luck!

I have just bought Heathers book on enlightened equitation, and slowly going through it - it is a fab book!
I am starting to get bruises come out on my inner thighs, had to have a hot bath last night as I was getting really stiff (hope Santorium doesn't see this - he'll be getting all excited ;) !!!) As the horse that I was on this week doesn't like being on the lunge and kept freaking out, which was rather scary but I managed to stay on him and not on the ground.

lol. I think one of the funniest/naughty things I've seen on here is someones signature which says something like "theres nothing better than having 17 hands bewteen your legs" That always makes me giggle.
As for the bruising and aching I was so stiff after my first few lessons I couldn't walk until I'd had a couple of nurofen. There's only about one other thing that gets close to using the same muscles and I dont think i should mention it here;)

trouble is I was holding on for dear life as the horse was starting to get a bit freaky with the lunge rein, didn't want to fall off!
