Well as some of you already know my best buddie Promise has been diagnosed with navilcular and although I will keep her to the end of her days and look after her the best I can I have decided to buy another horse that I can ride whilst keeping Promise as a much loved pet!
I have been to see so many horses already and I have been shocked at the lies some people tell! I have seen so many poor looking horses that I wish I had enough money to buy em all and feed em up and give them a good home! I did see a really nice horse and booked a vetting but unfortunately someone turned up with cash and he went.....
I am off to Milton Keynes tommorrow to go and see what sounds like a lovely mare (and sounds v well looked after!) so fingers crossed! I take a trusted friend with me that is far more experienced than myself and can help me decide if he/she is a healthy, nice natured horse. One that I went to see was painfully thin, had remedial shoes, stringhalt and was lame! The seller tried to tell me that the horse had been out competing the week before, I think the only competition that horse had been to would have been in the trailer looking out of the window, I was sorely tempted to call the RSPCA and am still pondering....
It's hard to find the right horse but I have to make sure that the horse is right for me and vice versa as I will keep for all of it's life.
It also seems to be hard to get a vet out within a reasonable amount of time!
I will let you know how it goes tommorrow.... fingers crossed....

Good luck! You're wise to take your time and not be pressured. For any good ones that get away, they'll be dozens of nice horses waiting for you to find them. Best of luck in your search, I do know how frustrating it can be, but it will all be worth it when you bring home that perfect lifelong friend.

Hey there!
Am soooo excited!!! Went to see Poppy and she is just what I am looking for.... her owner rode her 1st and she was fine, then I rode her out on a hack and she was so quiet and I felt 110% safe even with big lorries and stuff, my 9 year old daughter rode and jumped her in the menage and she is such a good girl!!! I now have to arrange a vet to go see her and if given the all clear then I will have her next saturday when the owners will deliver her!! So fingers crossed that she passes the vetting!!!

I am sorry to hear about Promise, I didn't realise that she has been diagnosed with navilcular. Must be exciting to be out looking for an additional horse. Poppy sounds lovely, what is she like, age, breed, colour etc? It is so worrying when buying a horse, I know how you feel, hopefully the vetting will help settle and niggling thoughts!
How is the schooling going with yourself sinec we last posted? Please let me know...
Helen.

Hi there,
Have not had a chance to do any schooling as Promise cannot be ridden at the moment - it was going v well prior to her getting nav and going lame, I might be able to hack her v lightly but I will have to wait n see what the vet says on Wednesday as she has to go again for x-rays and remedial shoeing.
Poppy is 16hh TB, bay, very pretty10 yo. she is a bit grumpy with strangers but was quite affectionate with her owner so I guess it takes her a while to get to know you. She was a gem to ride so I am hoping that the vetting will go well on Thursday!

I bet Poppy is the sort that once you are her best friend she loves you to bits! And if she was a gem to ride that is a major point out of the way.
I hope that both Thursday and Wednesday go okay for you - and that Promise is not too bad. Thinking of you.

Well Promise has not got any worse although I still have to wait at least another month before vet will consider riding. But is brilliant that she is in no pain and has not got worse :)
AND....... Poppy passed her vetting! Woo hoo! :D She is being delivered Sat morning.

It's hard to find the right horse but I have to make sure that the horse is right for me and vice versa as I will keep for all of it's life.

You may need to get the file size down - ie reduce the resolution. Make sure they are in JPEG format and use a save for web option if you have one in whatever package you are using.
