Used to be driven nuts by a friend's pony that did this at 5 am every morning - 20 metres from my bedroom... Put some carpet/rubber matting/old mattress/anything! on the inside of his door to damp down the noise, so he'll lose interest. Or you could put a bale of hay on the inside of the door to stop him getting close enough to kick it - but this can get dodgy because of the string.
Horses do this out of boredom or frustration (our 'annoying' pony was stabled 24 hours a day and the behaviour stopped when he started getting more turnout) so he needs his routine improving, if at all possible. Ad lib hay maybe? If he's so bored he's kicking the door and you then stop him relieving his frustration in this way he may turn to worse vices.

There is a horse on our yard who always bangs his door. He is in the riding school, so he has to spend quite a lot of time in his stable between lessons. The only way that shuts him up is to give him some hay, which we don't to do as this rewards him for bad behavour. We tryed to make some toys for this weekend such as putting veg and fruit on a string, but kept him occupied for about 10m mins at the most!!!
If anyone has any ideas please let us know as he is driving everyone mad on the yard and it is starting to spread to other horses.
