View Full Version : Very... Unexpected

Yesterday at a show practise at the pony club we were working on the medium walk... The instructor (a dressage judge and our PC DC) hadn't seen anyone do it properly apart from us, once and she thought it must have been good luck. Well I knew Red (my 4yo) could do it easily, so we start going around the circle and then the instructor said "you continue to surprise me" and I'm like hehehe (because I knew what she was talking about), so she says "you're doing a perfect medium walk!" She practically used us as a demonstration! (A 4 year old who is so inexperienced compared to the rest? lol, all the others were over 9 years of age.) Very surprising! Especially because of this oh so experienced "dressage" horse who everybody likes couldn't do it without any coaching.

Great! Congratulations. My instructor says the walk is something that most people don't pay enough attention to so a properly executed walk can get you the edge over the competition!

That and the halt. Very few people pay attention to the part where you trot in, halt and salute.

hey well done :D. I have found many of the younger horses do have better paces and a much better walk. It may be because they haven't been messed with like most dressage horses.
Nicky has the WORST walk ever. he would rather got from trot to halt and most of the time he does, walk is a struggle every single step, and worst when i ask for an outline.
You have a great horse with a great walk never be tempted to mess with it :D

hmmm...I wonder if I could get Mear to control her speed at the walk. Normally we just go 'round in circles...
