well friday i went out to another private lesson. this time i was put on a huge palomino. probably some sort of draft X. he had legs like an elephant, no ankles, just straight down. ironically named Pal. he was a bit nippy though. the instructor had him in cross ties and was cinching him up and he kept biting at the ties. then in the ring while cinching him up a bit more he'd bite at the air. atleast he wasn't biting me or the instructor. this horse was huge though, i had to use the mounting block this time for sure. he musta been 16+hh i am guessing. she said he was a good size for me though, that he filled out my leg nicely. we trotted around the ring a billion times at the rising trot and then did some 20m circles. he was a nasty cheater and wanted to cut in all the time which made it difficult for me to keep up my rising trot and steer him constantly as well. then we moved into some cantering which i found very difficult in the 20m circles. he'd cut the circle really short and he was such a big horse i couldn't get a good rhythm going with this stride so i was bumping along, plus we were leaning way over to the left (left circle). the next day my right side was so sore from the leaning. i think she had me riding a good 45 minutes this time instead of the usual 30 minute lesson. i was sore on saturday but it went away quicker than the last time. so i must be improving atleast a bit. though he was a bit of a crab it was still a pretty fun ride. i have another lesson on wednesday so we'll see who i ride then.
then i went out 3 hours drive to my bf's family's farm. they had some relatives having an auction on saturday. they had a bunch or horse stuff, no saddles though. mostly single and double trees from the stone age. they had 3 boxes of shoes that some guy bought. they did have a huge bridle and some reins i was thinking of buying, they went for 4 dollars. i looked at all the equipment and they musta had one heck of a horse. the shoes were huge, the bridle was huge. it had a twisted bit and huge blinders on it. the reins themselves were about 2 inches wide! i am guessing they had some team horses or something for pulling plows and whatnot. very interesting to see all the old tack.
