Alright, I will try to make as much sense as i can here!
When i my horse, Dream, he went to a small place with horses just up the road from me. They aren't really a stable, just had a small barn and 4 acres for their horses. He stayed there for a month, then moved to a bigger stable with lots of horse luxuries just a little bit further up the road, call Pharoah hill. They are friends with the people where he was at before, and that kinda caused some friction
Regardless, the people from before moved and rented a big stable at the end of my road, called C&H stables. Between the 2 weeks or so that they were moving, their horses came to stay at Pharoah Hill. They traded one of their fillies for one at Pharoah. The filly they traded was put into a different pasture with yearlings, and the rest of their horses stayed in a separate paddock from the rest.
ALL of the horses in the separate paddock have come down with this sickness. The vet referred to it as a non-serious type of strangles. They get really sick, fever, snotty nose, and get this weird lump on their jowls which "explodes" and soaks puss everywhere, like an abcess. (ok, not trying to get too gross here...)
Also, the filly that they traded which was SEPARATED from the sick horses got it too. So far no one else has gotten it, just the horses from that barn. What does this come down to? They are blaming my horse for bringing it. He WAS sick when we got him; runny nose and a bit of a cough but i put it down to stress from moving so much (3 times in 1 month!? poor thing) He never had the puffed up jowls, but had a bit of a cough again 3 weeks ago. I was riding him around at a trot and all of a sudden he stopped to have a coughing fit...my riding instructor (we were in a lesson) said he was spitting up anything and there was no snot in his nose, so he should be ok if he dosn't stop to cough again, and he didn't.
No new horses have come before the others, so it makes sense that the horses from CH brought the sickness. No new horse was with them but mine. So it kinda makes sense that he gave it to them, but it dosn't make sense because he didn't have their symptoms.
Is there any other way they could have gotten this virus? I'm surprised none of the others have gotten it yet either...
