I've found it so interesting reading people's experiences from around the world that I was hoping to put an 'international stories' section together on my website.
Storage space isn't really a problem for me so I was hoping for say a '1 pager' with a few photos of yourself & horse, your environment \ riding school (i.e. contrasting say New York and the Shetland Islands - hint hint Wally I'm hoping you guys might contribute)
My site was started originally as a reference for mature beginner riders - but I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone who is kind enough to contribute, no matter what your age.
If you're interested but can't think of how to start here's the sort of info I'm after -
* when and why you started riding - what experience with horses you had till then
* getting your first horse - how you went about it, what the experience of owning has been like - if you've owned more than one you might like to talk about your favourite (or most naughty or whatever)
- or if you haven't how that's worked out for you, special horses you've learned on at riding schools etc
* anything 'special' about your part of the world - i.e. if you live in a big city - how long do you commute\ how often or perhaps what its like for the horses to be stabled in\near a city - likewise for areas where perhaps riding is a male thing or horse's are very expensive\rare etc
* the most common\popular breeds\equestrian sports in your area\part of the world - is your horse the same\ different - what you like about that breed, if you participate in a particular sport\competition\showing class
* Where and how you keep you horse(s) - Types of equipment\tack that are common in your part of the world - i.e. the stuff on Brits\Europeans using normal blankets\quilts in the stable was interesting to me even tho' its normal to you guys. Livery, DIY Livery - what that actually means for instance - how often you visit your horse etc (photos would be good for this section so that people can compare say a US barn to typical UK livery etc )
If you are interested I'd love to hear from you and you can email me your story and photos (if they're already published somewhere just provide the link and I can get them directly) to
virtuallyhorses@thepostmaster.net
I'll show you a copy of the page prior to publishing and put the page links to published stories here for New Rider members to enjoy. :)
