Hi I was wondering soemone said that the cafe area was orginally for off topic subjects but that doesn't really seem like it is I have noticed off topic post get deleted more then others. I was wondering could there be an off topic board?

There is no space for off-topic posts on NR. We're given the forum by the site, and the space and the traffic that we use (every time someone makes a post, or every time someone reads a post) all use the site's resources. We already take a lot of the space and bandwidth on this server.

That's why off-topic posts are not allowed. The Cafe area is for horse-related posts that don't belong in any named category--like "how today's ride went" or "does anyone like Eskadron better than Wetherbeeta?" It is not, definiteively not, for non-horse related posts.

If you want to chat about non-horse-related stuff, there are all sorts of ways, including the NR chat board set up on MSN Photos by someone from NR. Alternatively, you can PM, you can email, you can IM, or you can set up a chat room somewhere like the MSN Photos site.

No section of NR is for off-topic posts.

Come to think of it, I kinda like the Cafe Area as it is. I think I hear enough gossiping at school ;)

Perhaps one of the moderators would be so kind as to clarify this point.... I seem to remember on a recent thread around this subject (as well as other more emotive ones) that the cafe area was fundamentally for 'on topic' threads but that 'off topic' threads that were not offensive/ below the belt/ of a too adult nature would be allowed provided they were likely to be of interest to more than a handful of folks.

The cafe area threads are only there for a fortnight, so I guess they don't take up too much space for too long.

As I said on a previous post..... without off topic threads, new rider might well become a fairly boring and sterile community. Not to mention the fact that we would miss out on 'off topic' things like Esther and Steve's wedding!!

There is some lattitude for Off topic posts in the Cafe Area but it is not a replacement for a chat room or a place to fill up with rubbish. Posts are judged on their merit and quality and interest to other readers.

Thanks Mike!:D

I guess that is clear for Tbone and Galadriel, who seem to have the opposite ends of the stick as to what the cafe area is for..... looks like the cafe area sits somewhere in the middle of the two extremes!;)

We need to strike a happy medium off OT and Horse. I think we've found it right now, and we have the mod's to keep us on the straight and narrow if we happen to wonder!
