My horse has had a sarcoid for about 2 years now, I think it is an Occult Sarcoid, it is grey, scaley, dry and only very slightly raised, about 1" in diameter. It is behind his elbow and doesn't rub on any of his tack so up until now I have not interfered with it as it hasn't changed in size for about 18 months now. The other day I noticed that the top had come off the bottom half of it causing very slight bleeding. I used 'Wonder Gel' on it which also contains a fly repellent. I am now concerned that because it has been damaged it might spread or become Fibroblastic. Has anybody had any experience with a similar problem? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Hi when I bought my boy 18 months ago he had what the vet thought was a sarcoid on his sheath-she said leave it alone-and I did!-in the summer it was a bit fly bitten and then seemed to go and just leave a shiny lump -this summer it stayed like that so I left it well alone-cant answer for yours but I would say leave it for the time being-putting anything on sarcoids that are more or less dormant my vet said angered them and caused more problems-however if its becoming bigger then maybe try Camrosa as they say this is pretty good for sarcoids

Thanks for the advice AJB, feel better about it now :) I've always thought along the 'leave it alone' theory but wasn't sure that was really the best approach and I was getting a bit worried because it had now been damaged and I understand that they can spread by flies or cell debris. Hopefully, it will regress in time. I will bear Camrosa in mind if it does increase in size :)
