Hi everybody,
A month since Pégaso moved into his new yard have gone by. At this point I just feel that I ought to give a quick update to all our NR friends, all those that gave me so much moral and practical support over these long 15 months.
In short, all I can say is that you were right. This move was the best thing that I could have done for both of us. Pity I didn´t do it earlier, but I guess there is a right time for everything in life.
We are settled and very, very happy. Pégaso is revealing his real personality, is full of himself and communicates with his mates; he feels part of a herd now. When I hear him neighing, it almost brings tears to my eyes…
We both have a wonderful trainer; I am getting a confidence boost and excellent private riding lessons; he has daily turnout ( a couple of hours, but still, enough for him right now), and a daily training session (very short but intensive lessons) or a relaxed hack with loose reins (he loves those).
Obviously things aren´t perfect yet, there is still plenty of room for further progress. Pégaso has tried all his tricks with Gina, our trainer, like stealing his feet off her hands, swinging his hinds to pin her against the wall, rotating his head to grab/bite her leg, running over her when she is teaching me in the middle of the arena, pulling his snaky menacing faces when he is in a bad temper, spooking all the time in hacks (she reckons he does that as fun, to play tricks on his rider), walking backwards with her in the arena… although there is a difference, he did it now just light heartedly, as testing and stops just on voice control, as before he did this out of shear frustration. He is a clever horse, full of character, we all agree at the yard. He adores his trainer and she does too.
I am re-learning to ride, and although I do not see it, Gina says that I am making progress. Pégaso is still a lasy little s**, but I give him his do. Having said that, he responds to aids, his gaits are light, elevated and collected, he is actually now further away from me, level wise. Last week we started to teach him Spanish Walk (he didn´t like it, tried to dig a hole in the arena with his violent stamping!)… and Golegă next year is in order…
On the other hand, I have friends with whom I can socialise, talk to without being laughed at. Ann, is always chirpy, always pleasant and happy; Gina, such a good support. I love it there. There is an overall sense of harmony. Day by day the sun is shinning brighter and brighter for both of us.
It gives me a great sense of relief to know that although I can visit my horse solely over the weekend he is in very good hands. It is also soothing to drive with a smile on my face, without strain, feeling butterflies in my stomac. There is nothing worse that to be afraid of our own horse.
The only serious problem we have now is that Pégaso sweet itch escalated, and all his body is now itchy and he is loosing his gorgeous mane. This is worrying me and Gina.
I leave you with a photo taken last week, for you to judge. Soon as I get there, Pégaso asks me to scratch him… a few months ago this was not viable due to his aggression.
My next goal is loose my fear from hacking.
