Hello All.

Hope you can help me. I'm still in the process of trying to get my horse to lose a bit of weight. However, I plan to give him a bit of bran mash just to warm him up when I first take his rug off in the morning.

I just wondered if you would let me know if this is a particularly fattening food. I've heard it's no good as a main feed as it doesn't have many nutrients etc (i don't plan on using it that way anyway), but he has one small feed at lunch time (scoop chaff, scoop hi-fibre cubes and 1/2 scoop soaked sugar beet) and a small feed tea time (1 1/2 scoops chaff, 1 scoop soaked SB and 1 scoop fibre cubes). His food has already been cut down big time. I don't want to undo all my good work re his diet by giving him a particularly fattening food though. HELP!

Can you let me know what you think?

Thanks!:)

Bran is a bit old fashioned, it can muck about with the phosphorous/calcium balance in the horse's diet. We never feed it, I think it is a waste of time and money.

I'd be inclined to give him some chaff with a HANDFUL, no more, of nuts through it.
