Dear Heather

I have had your wonderful book for some time now and have read it whenever possible.

I am really interested in the how to feel sections but I don't understand one of the statements and I do so want to get it right.

In your book it states when doing rising trot on the right rein when you feel the horses left hip dip his right shoulder is coming back which is when you should sit. I always thought that you sat when the outside shoulder is back, so on the right rein (left being the outside) should you not sit as the right hip is dipping. I appologise in advance for asking what is most probably as stupid questiong but it is very important to me to get this right.

EEEEEK!!!! Tammie, I must check this immediately in the book, as if it says that it is very definately a misprint. When the left hip dips, it is the left shoulder coming back, and likewise to the right, right hip dips rightshouder is coming back, and yes, you are absolutely right, the rider does sit when the ourtside shoulder is back. I will look this up and tell the publishers to correct it next preint run.

Thanks, Heather

Tammie,

You were absolutely right Tammie. It is a terrible misprint, because it was so misleading. Nobody seems to have noticed it before, so I am so glad that you have brought it to my attention.

A lovely Japanese guy, brought another misprint to my attention last year. It said that when asking fro left canter, the left leg should be behind the groin, or words to that effect! That probably produced some interesting contortions. It seems that I am not alone in this problem. Other author friends assure me that this is common. God forbid!

Heather- on the phone first thing tomorrow to David and Charles!

Aha, thanks for pointing that out, that paragraph had me confused too - but I thought it was just me having a left/right problem as always!

Just to add a line to this. I thought I would get down on all fours and try to copy the horse trotting, it really does help to understand what the horse is doing. Unfortunately one of my work mates has walked in on me and now thinks that I am totally mad.

HI Tammie,

I just hope your neighbours know you are horsey! At least that way if they see you on all fours emulating trot, they won't think you are off your trolley!
