i think my mare has got a bog spavin. yesterday when i rode her/handled her it was dark so i'm not sure if it was there or not, but today when i went to turn her out she has a fluid filled lump to the inside of both her hocks. when pressed it will go back in an fits exactly with all the descriptions of a bog spavin that i have ever read, although i've never seen one. she does have good hind leg conformation though and is never worked to the point where it would be due to a strain. i don't think she has ever got to the point where she even sweats under saddle as i am very careful with her. she is only 6yrs and i bought her unbroken in feb so shes had a very easy life.
although saying that a new mare was introduced into the field yesterday and apparently all the mares were charging about for a while. could this have caused it? i done a search and have found some info that it can be caused by a copper deficiency has anyone heard of this? she is totally sound even following a flexion test she trots up sound straight away, i have rested her toady and will try and get the vet out asap but i just wondered what peoples experiences of this were
