I am doing another college assigment and I am stuck on how you find out how much water a horse should drink a day, I have founda website which has a bit of information on how bodyweight and feed affect the amount, but there wasn't anything on exercise and temperature.

Could someone please help me.

One source of current information is:

Nutrition In The Horse. By David W. Ramey, D.V.M., and Stephen E. Duren, Ph.D. 1998. ISBN 0-87605-089-5. 152 pages.

This is an easy read and also covers watering as an "also" consideration throughout the text.

I suggest that you read this, as there is no "pat" answer to your question; rather, there are environmental and activity variables that directly affect water intake.

The authors do a good job at explaining the issues.

Hi,

If you can get hold of a copy of BHS Complete Manual of Stable Management - There is an entire chapter (17) on Watering.

I'll have a mooch round and see if I can find anything on the web - at what level are you aiming at for your assignment ?
Resaon I ask is the requirement for the answer differs from your BHS Stage 1 answer to your HND Hairy Equine Certificate !!
