Heather ... do you know of any tutors who teach your method of riding in my area .. Epsom, Banstead, Leatherhead etc, in Surrey?

I'm back from a stint in hospital and recovery time and I'm really not sure that I'm happy to take lessons from the new tutor at my yard. He's very old BHS school of thought and although I'm sure other people are happy with this, I find it very inflexible in some areas and at odds with the way I relate to horses.

Also, without going into long detail here, can you give me your opinion about Flexi-reins? My horse now has a sore mouth after being ridden by staff in school lessons and I'm somewhat upset about this but don't want to make a big deal about it. I'm going to start riding beginning of next month and I know it's going to be difficult, since my mare has always had a sensitive mouth and "fiddles" with the bit anyway if not ridden sensitively.

Incidentally, I'm going to have her teeth checked.

Heather, I know how busy you are, but I'd be very grateful if you could get back on this soon as you possibly can? I don't really want my horse ridden again until I've sorted the problem mentioned previously, but I know it is not going to go down too well, if I withdraw her from their school lessons without a valid and tactful explanation.

She was after all exercised while I've been away, and I really do not want to upset anyone.

Many many thanks ... I look forward to hearing from you.

HI Anne,

If you knew how many times I am asked this question in a week! 'Who can I go to in my area that teaches this way?'!!!! I am sorry to have to say that other than Sue my assistant teacher and Mike my assistant trainer, plus Sarah, my last year's working pupil who landed herself a top job in Germany training young dressage horses, there aren't any other teachers of my methods..........yet. Next plan is to start an Enlightened Equitation Teaching Foundation next year. Wacth this space!

Re Flexi reins, I think that just as much damage can be done in the wrong hands with them. Any bit, or reins, is only as mild or as rough as the hands that use them.
