I just though I would tell everyone who is interested in teaching there horse to jump even just little jumps.

I was a very nervous jumper although I pushed myself to keep doing small jumps. But i recently brought a book on jump training and it has really helped I was jumping 1 meter today and this is only 2 weeks after getting the book.

It's called 101 jumping exercises.

It goes through all the exercises from poles on the ground to grids and full causes. It starts with simply exercises of walking over poles to trotting and trotting small grids.

It then goes on to jumping at the canter, jumping on an angle and jumping cross-country obstacles.

please reply if you have this book or anthing just as useful. Thanks

This sounds like a really good book - I've just had a look on amazon and two different titles are listed. Is it;

Linda Allen's 101 Jumping Exercises for Horse and Rider
Linda Allen, Dianna R Dennis

or

101 Jumping Exercises: For Horse and Rider
David O'Connor (Foreword), Joe Fargis (Foreword), William Steinkraus (Foreword), Linda L. Allen, Dianna R. Dennis

I'm going to buy it - so let me know which one it is.

The book sounds really good... wonder if they sell it in Australia. Does it actually show you how to teach a horse to jump? Harashee's never seen a jump before, and I have no idea in how to teach him.
Are there any other good books around to help?

I have the Linda Allen book and love it. I keep it at the barn, so that I have it on hand when I'm looking for good exercises. I recommend it to anyone looking for jumping exercises (or even people who are just looking for exercises over poles, as it begins with a whole chapter that involves nothing more than poles on the ground.)

As far as teaching, I think that the progressive nature of the exercises and inclusion of simple gymnastics, would make this book useful for planning the initial jump training of a green horse.

Other good books I have that include progressive exercises and gymnastics include "The DeNemethy Method; Modern Techniques for Training the Showjumper and it's Rider" and Anne Kurskinski's "Riding and Jumping Clinic."
