View Full Version : Did I say Dressage was boring?

Nooo. Not me! :D
We came back from our second show today. We made Reserve Champion in the Adult Amateur Division, so we got a snazzy tri-colored ribbon in addition to our others.
This show stuff is pretty fun. I even went out and bought a black coat for my second show. (It was cheap- Stateline Tack $69)
I will post some pictures later on! My little pony makes me so happy. He is just so good natured yet spunky. We fell into a canter again at the 20 meter trot circle :(, but we still managed to come in second on that test. :)
The judge was nice. She wrote "A little too exuberant";)
The second test was better because it had a lot of trot and he just looks so good in his cute little outline.

Hooray! Reserve Champion, oh boy. Big congrats. Did you get a pic of the good pony with the ribbon on his bridle? :)
Today I set up a rectangle for a dressage arena, using standards with poles making 90 degree angles. I then had the pleasure of convincing the mares that it was a dressage arena, not an unusual looking jump. Very un-boring dressage today.

Galadriel,
sounds to me like you have very exuberant girls there! ;)
Our arena is not fenced in but DJ has done that before with the Cavaletti- just jump them at once rather than bother trotting over them...
I forgot to mention: There was a lady in a fancy coat riding a $25,000 Dutch Warmblood (son of Consul) and we beat them too! How cool is that?!
I know... :( We should be competing with ourselves not others. For ourselves we did well, too.
At the first show we got a 54 and a 63 and this time we got a 63 and a 66. We are really getting the hang of this!
I almost didn't go. I've been sick all week (upper respiratory). I had trouble getting air without coughing and my legs felt wobbly. Now of course I am glad I took some Robutusin and went! :)
You should post some pics of your arena, Galadriel. Sounds like you are on a budget like me and I need some ideas for next year!

Terrific :)
As for my arena... (laugh) I made 4 corners. I made 4 90 degree angles, with 2 PVC pipes each leaning up against a PVC jump standard. I'm going to get some buckets (I keep old supplement buckets & things) and put them where the letters ought to be. But aside from the corners, it's not enclosed or anything. I mostly just wanted to get approximate dimensions so I can practice well.

Congratulations Karin and DJ!
We've got our second show 7th December - even though Thomas is distantly related to the wonderful DJ, I have a feeling we'll be repeating our position at our first show, ie last in both classes!:D

Hey, Karin, I modified my new "arena" today. Instead of the jump standards--which I'd like to be using--I put a cinder block at each corner and leaned the poles up against that. It's still a defined rectangle but I got my jump standards back. I also got out a set of about 1' diameter flower pots I had sitting around, and put one each upside down at B, E, and C. (I need to look it up to remember just how far out M/F/H/K are from the corner--I think it's 8m--then I'll get them too :))

I am sure Thomas will be great. My instructor is very conservative. You may just have started to go to shows at an earlier stage. I have owned DJ already for 18 months and been taking lessons for 2 1/2 years.
Once we go to the more advanced shows I am sure we will be last as well...
I made a "Karin & DJ's Shows" album in the member photos if anybody is interested...
