I'm due to get my very amazind arab x back from loan next weekend he's been away for 4 years and he's coming home the
thing is i'm worried i've lost my skill if i ever had any. I stop riding because i lost my nerve (he chucked me jumping)
I've been having riding lessons leading up to having him home and been out on him and all seems well but does anyone with simular exsperience have any advise (plus he's going to be kept at my house and i don't have a sand school)

My sister lost her confidence with a little New Forest mare when she fell off about 4 or 5 years ago. Her confidence has always suffered since. We had a Welsh cob on loan for 2 years and we have since bought her. Silk is a superb mare and has done wonders for my sister. Just work through it slowly is all I can suggest. Take your time and only progess when you feel ready. Recently she has taken over my 15hh mare, Bliss, who is a little more feisty but jumps like a stag. Rozen (my sister) puts trust in the mare to carry her over and Bliss will jump anything she is pointed at. So her confidence is really blossoming. She has done several hunter trials and showjumping events and is usually placed. So be prepared for it to take time ad just progress as you feel it is best. Don't let anybody pressurize you. Good luck! Jenna xx

Start very gently, with groundwork, or lunging, so that he gets used to being with you in his new home. Then, when you ride him out, start by walking until you feel more confident, and do everything in little steps. Take plenty of time and you'll be fine.
