hi everyone, when i jump jumps up to 1m (about 3ft 3) im fine and everything goes well, most of the time anyway. but when i jump anything over this, which the horse is perfectly capable of, she takes a bit more of a spring as shes taking off which sends me flying up. how do you stay still when this happens?
sorry im not very good at explaining this.

Up to a certain height, a jump is just an extra big canter stride, but then the horse has to make more of an effort and jump UP as well as OVER. That's what is unbalancing you. If your lower leg is stable and you are flexing at the hip you may just have to go forward a bit more as she pushes off, but hard to diagnose without seeing you. Anyway, thats quite high enough!

Firstly, it's NOT a stupid question! It's a good question! :)

In fact (lol) I asked a very similar question just recently. You can read the thread here (http://www.newrider.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27049). The advice the others gave me has REALLY helped! :)

Happy jumping!

Love,
Alex

well, when you jump smaller fences there is no need to use a larger position, and you only need to use one jumping position. But over larger fences, that are more upright, you need to go up and then over, if you catch my drift. These fences the hors ehas to jump up higher to get over it, and it also causes them to jump a bit farther to get over the height. so if a horse jumps up higher, then you should go up too, right? So instead of using your 4 position for the whole jump, ease into it. Use the 2, which is more upright, when the horse takes off, and then ease into the 4 point, so it's kind of like up and out. i'm sorry, I can't explain it any better.
