You all know I had a lot of trouble teaching Mear to do a turn on the haunches in hand. I found that while I couldn't do it with out a reference, if I drew a circle on the ground, or used a hool-a-hoop for her hind legs, I coud turn her around that way very well. I think that I'm somehow communicating it to her even though I don't *think* I'm doing anything different.

Is it me, or did it just click for her?

she won't be able to see the ring that you are using for reference. I'd say that knowing exactly what you had to do made it clearer to her exactly what she had to do.

I know she wouldn't be able to see the circle, by "clicking' I meant the signal I was using.

I think you're right though, I must have been just that much clearer! Now I have to figure out what it was that I did...

Another way to use a reference especially when riding is to use the fence line. Always comes in handy and a horse can't step back cos it knows there is a wall, frence behind them.
