I'm currently training my 6yo 15hh TB x and I'd like any suggestions for an effective training programme/training exercises I can do. I would like my horse to event and show jump in the future, but eventing is my passion.
Thank you

when are you planning to start competing? if you've got aims for next season, then obviously you need to go a bit faster than if it's a few years down the line.
how much has your horse done so far?
you need to look at a programme of flatwork and jumping, building up the confidence over fences gradually without overfacing the horse.
so say where you and the horse are at the minute, and roughly what kind of time frame you're looking at, and i'll see if i can be of some help.

We have done unaffiliated showjumping and pony club (no higher than 3'), but not a lot else. She has jumped 4' at home on a good day, and i don't plan to compete seriously until after GCSEs. However, I am competing in unaff shows every weekend this month. My training consists of:-
-a lot of hacking out (so she doesn't get bored)
-jumping/dressage in the school
-cross-country on our small course (3'-3'6" max)
-lunging regularly (say 1/2 hour a week)
-regular lessons with various instructors
I'm open to any suggestions for new training techniques etc.

If you are looking for suggestions for progressive jumping program, I highly recommend Linda Allen's "101 Jumping Exercises."
