Now I know how a horse feels.
I was getting on Star the other day, from a mounting block when there was a LOUD cracking noise. The instructor thought I had snapped a stirrup leather, and I thought I had broken the mounting block because I felt a real 'kick' in the sole of my foot - the one right foot, the you spring up from. It turns out that the crack was a tendon in the sole of my foot tearing (not snapping). And it is exquisitley painful. - crutches are necessary!!
Has anybody ever had a torn tendon, how long before it heals, and did it recurr?

P.S I was only stepping up 10", from the mounting block:mad:

yowch! i tore the tendons in my shoulder when i had a car crash - afraid to say that 2 1/2 years on (the crash was in july 2001) it still bothers me. but then i also tore all the muscles round it, and i didn't stop working at the yard or riding, although i did no lifting (also broke a wrist) for 18 months.
hope you heal better than i did!

Oh no! How awful for you:( It always seems to happen doing mundane things too, rather than dangerous ones, a woman at our yard did her knee climbing over a stile into the field a while back. Hope you get better quick:)

I tore my Achilis Tendon on August the 1st at a show & I rode out for the 1st time this Sunday. When I got back my ankle was swollen & bruised but it's not so bad today :)
The problem is with ankles & feet no matter how hard you try you put pressure on them when riding.
Don't push it, give it time to heal...& then some..!!

Get Well Soon...F~Fxxx

How miserable for you. My friend tore her achilles tendon twice and each time it was 2-3 months before she was OK. She did have to have her leg in plaster though.
Hope you feel better soon.:)

i ripped my achilles tendon (not completely broke it but was v. near thing) while wearing high heals (no i didnt fall off them it just went!!) pain lots of pain and bruising and ice packs, x-rays etc i was riding the next weekend (against doctors wishes/ demands/downright tempertantrums!!!) but then again i did ride in a WHP class at a county show 2 days after breaking my wrist (painted cast brown and nobody noticed hehe!!) and rode in a showing class a day after breaking both my ankle and wrist!!! (i got a good telling off from mum for that one!!!! but i cant be held responsible for it as i had concussion and a small frackture in my skull we later found out!!) so i might just be imune to the type of pain and begging form doctors to stay out of the saddle!!!! which reminds me i realy must get my foot seen to i broke a bone in mid show season and refused to have it put in a cast!!! realy must go now i did it in july and it is still bruised!!

Thankyou all for your words of consolation (sob sob).:(

We'll just have to see how it heals, I was going to write 'goes', but its already done that!!! (gone)

I've been loaned some crutches, and was asked by a 5year old at school 'what have you done to your foot?' without waiting for an answer, the child went on, 'is it because Junior jumped on it?' So poor Junior is recieveing the blame for his teacher's bad foot from all the rest of the infants playground :D

Poor you how very painful , I did my achilles tendon on one leg & 12mths later the other went, like a horse my weight had been on the good one. Please take it slowly , give it time to heal properly. good luck hope it heals soon & well.:):)

Just to really boring and elderly, do, please, give it time to heal. You will only be storing up problems for yourself for when you get older - arthritis etc. You'd rest a nag wouldn't you, so whats different. hope its better very soon. lL
