...and hated how it looked? I figured this is probalby better off on a more mature board. My sister took some pictures of me riding last night, and my horse is beautiful. He's in frame, bending at the hocks, pushing with his back...only something ruins the picture. The way I look :( My foot had slid into the stirrup, and my heel was pointing up, but that's not what it is. It's just the way I look. I am a little over weight and it totally shows in that picture. I am long in the hip and thigh with short calves so that looks rather strange too!
Sorry if this sounds like a pity me post....not meaning for it to be!! Just frustrated because I am trying to lose weight but with my bday and christmas so close together and all the special dinners it's hard. I wish I could do my horse justice! Anyone else ever feel like that?

Ugh...i always look AWFUL in pictures!! In pics of me riding i always look so serious  i don't look like i'm having fun!! Which is weird seeing as i'm probably the least serious rider you could find :p i don't compete, i don't train hard, etc. i just hack out and school, both for fun!

I only have one good picture that I like of me riding. Well the ones taken at any horse shows I was in except for some of the pics. My old helmet use to fall over my eyes and cover me up like I was a vampire or some scowling rider. At my first show though it fit fine but after that the mice struck and ate my helmet... So it kinda was big on my head. But the horse I was riding got his picture taken with me on him when we were walking. He is a draft horse so he looks so handsome when he walks:D!!! Well anyways the picture people who took the picture did a good job so I bought the picture and it is a memerbillia(SP? I CANT SPELL! Should have gotten a big dictionary for christmas. I already have one but I need a reveiw). So it has his name, my name, the event we won in, the date, and the show name. It is the niciest picture that was ever taken of me! Well in my opinion...

I don't think anyone likes their picture being taken!
Our instructor always used to get someone to take digital pics during our lesson to comment on after. One lesson, all the pics showed me having my head majorly tilited to the outside! I didn't realize that I was doing it!
You are obviously doing the right things if your horse is working his back end, working in a nice outline etc. :)

I don't think I know a rider that likes how they look in the pictures!
Of course there are the 'helpful' dislikes that you mentioned, for example you know now you need to work on your heel position, etc.
And then there are the things we notice that will be nearly impossible to fix! For you it's being a little overweight. For me it's being very tall for a girl. I am 5'10" and riding my 16.1 Throughbred I feel very well matched- until I see the pics and I feel awful how huge I look on this horse!
But I also have a friend who's only 5' tall and petite and she hates her pics as well... ;)

Karin, I'm sure you look fine, try being 5' 11.5" on a 15.1 cob like me :) We're both comfy so I don't worry about it. Pictures are excellent though, you never seem to actually be riding as well as you think you are, there are plenty of good pointers to be had. Normally leg and hand position in my case:rolleyes:

I had a friend come and video one of my lessons about 2 years ago when I first started riding and I watched it back the other day and oh my god!! It was terrible, everytime I was rising in trot my lower leg was jiggling around like it had a mind of its own, my knees are gripping and I'm constantly kicking my poor gg in ribs. I would like to add that I had corrected these horrible habits now and whilst I don't look perfect in the saddle I do look better.
I think photos and videos like this are good for us as we can see where we are going wrong and right and it gives us chance to correct anything we don't like. Its also nice to have piccies of your fav horse, so theres one bonus at least.:D

I have some truly awful pictures of me riding! Sadly it's proof that my position isn't everything it should be :o But they are great learning aids - how things feel isn't always the same as how things look. But as has already been said, the real proof of how you ride is how your horse is going - that's because of what you are doing, not despite it.

Videoing is the worst!
I had loads of photos of me taken on Maverick whilst riding (I was 12 so didn't care about getting the picture) and it didn't bother me, but then I got video taken. I tell you who needs lessons when you see yourself on video!
I have improved so much since getting my camcorder. I am able to slow down the film so I see every intrigate detail of my position, and boy it doesn't look wonderful but is getting better (I hope).
Oh well, don't get yourself down about it because we all feel the same.

Ha! :p oh yes - lovely horse - who's that big fat lummox on it? I'm sure this film was meant to have Imp & an Anky look-alike on it :D ;)
But wait there's more - get a look at yourself on video .... :D

I know where you are all coming from.
Why oh why won't 'they' let fat women show in black breeches? much better for all concerned than the pale ones. And they look just as smart and cover the cellulite, wobbles and bulges better. I speak from personal experience after eeing photographs of myself in the offending article of clothing. :D
