Thrilled to bits. The trailer stopped at a motorway service station on the way home, and I told everyone, "That's MY pony!" :D

Sick, panic, what have I done? You name it. The responsability really hit home.

It's like having kids, everyone tells you you "should" feel elated, over the moon, instant love etc. In reality you fel whatever YOU feel. It may be absolute joy and elation it may be a feeling of "what have I done?"

In the end it will all resolve itself and you'll get into anew routine and wonder what the fuss was about.

Owning a thing like a horse for the first time is a big deal in a lot of ways.

I echo Wally's experiences, it scared me to death, all the feeling of self doubt, the weight of responsibilty etc, but that time passes :)

I couldnt get it into my head that i had a horse and that a horse belonged to me! I loved it and still do, not a single regret. My mum (old but trying!) was filled with panic and the thought of responsibility, that soon went!

hehe my is way different. I felt how you all felt when i got both nicky and charlie. But my first horse hollie. lol

I was very disapointed and grumpy lol. happy I had a horse but i didn't want that one!!!! I was given her for free lease. I got her just after she had a foal and hadn't been ridden in 2 years and hardly cared for. lol this was the middle of winter. so picture a little horse skin and bones soaking wet with a very grumpy nature, she tryed to throw me off lol!!! I had been spoiled by a pretty pinto i had been riding the last 6 months lol. Took me 8 months to love hollie and after that we couldn't be parted. And i still miss her to this day, but she is now teaching another little girl how to ride :D

Yeah, me too! I still kept being kind of paranoid about something terrible happening and ending the dream throughout the first year.
Even when I first went to see him I came back home without a sales contract because I thought he was too perfect for me.

I have had him since May 2002 and haven't managed to kill him or drive him crazy yet, so that's good.

Was delighted when I got my first pony, well I was until I went in the field to catch her. She came through a friend of my fathers & it turned out she kicked & she could just kick. The first time I entered that field she kicked me pepeatedly pinning me to the hedge & didn't give up 'til rescue arrived. Fortunately she was unshod so it was a matter of severe bruising , but it did wipe the smile off my face. Despite her behaviour there was no way I was going to lose my first pony so I got round things, if I stood just inside the gate & didn't approach her she came to me & I cuold catch her. If I wanted to wash her tail I needed one person to hold her with her bottom against a door or wall, another to hold her tail accross the barrier while I washed in safety. Oddly enough I had her for some years & a better ride I couldn't have hoped to find, she was an ArabX Exmoor , very fast & hunted all day , keeping up & in many cases passing the big horses.

I'm afraid I burst into a flood of tears.:o Happy ones, I hasten to add - although since then Quanah has made me cry for a much wider variety of reasons.;)

Some days he is great therapy, other days I think he will put me in therapy. But wouldn't life be dull without my mecurial half-ton of adolescent angst.:D

I was quite young when I got my first pony and I remember how excited I was, I went from the child that my mother had to drag out of bed so I wouldn't miss the school bus to being up before dawn to go down to the paddock to groom my little mare. I still remember how she would be waiting at the fence and as soon as she heard the back door of our house open, she would be neighing to me. She must have been the best groomed pony in the world, I'm surprised she had any hair left with the amount of time I would spend grooming her.
