Yay rezbeck!

Having had many contretemps with Murphy when getting the bridle on, I know exactly what you mean! Great when things finally go right, isn't it? (although now he does that okay he's decided he's afraid of the mounting block.... )

Onwards to trot-canter transitions with you!:D

Congratulations Rezbek, I can remember how that felt too! Do you have your own horse?

Hey Cathy, Patrick used to be perfect at the mounting block, then he decided standing beside it was completely unacceptable. He also gradually began being 'naughty' about standing next to anything to be mounted. I worked with him quietly and he had a change of heart about everything but the mounting block. Eventually, I moved to another yard with a different mounting block, so we're okay again - for now!

Oops! Sorry, rezbeck, lost this thread - I've been riding for 6 years, had Murphy (my first horse!) for just under 3 months now, he's a rising 7yo chestnut cob with a flaxen mane and tail, 16hh cobby type with a lot of clydesdale in him.

Jack sounds lovely, I think they all try it on to begin with, don't they?! Took 6 goes to get him near the mounting block last night, but we got there eventually... he'll stand stock still if mounted from the ground (but I'm not that bendy!) or against a fence, but the mounting block is a horse-eating thing of evil, apparently - the annoying thing is he'll stand there perfectly for half a second and then the minute I go to put my foot into the stirrup he'll swing his bum away!

Stella2, let's hope the new mounting block proves more acceptable to Patrick! How are you both getting on at the new yard now?

Cathy, thanks for asking - we moved last week and he is very unsettled, but improving (me too). There is a thread dicussing our trials and tribulations called 'moving yards and feeling a bit wet' - the title says it all! :D

Well done thats great. I take a great deal of joy from what would seem to others to be no big deal. I have found by congratulating myself for little things my confidence is coming back in leaps and bounds. When you get the trot/canter transition under your belt you will feel great.
