What size of field would you have to keep a horse in ?

It all depends on the situation, but I was always taught that you should have a minimum of 2-1/2 acres per horse to prevent fields from turning into mud lots. Obviously, more is better :D

Its recommended to have 1.5 acres for the first horse and a further acre for every other horse. But it depends a lot on the individual horse, and the time of year.
I'd rather have less grazing in summer to help guard against laminitis/weight gain and more in winter to minimize the mud :)

As has been said, it depends on the horse. My friend's little Welshie only gets 1/4 acre as he is so prone to laminitis :( Gracie shares a 15 acre field with 4 other horses.
