Why am i more confident on others peoples horses when jumping and not on baz?
In the first 2 months of baz i had a bad fall where he did not pick his feet up etc.
To help him pick up his feet i have been doing a fair bit of show jumping. He is jumping very boldly and nice but i am still worried abuot falling off and hurting myself.
I today got on a friends mare and was easily popping 1m with her where as with baz i would not think about doing it -EVEN though he is very capable. Why is this?
Does anyone know how i can get my confidence with him??

Rache, I have a real confidence problem, (I dont have any:D).
I was recommened to have lessons to help get it back and since I have found the right instructor, it is coming back in leaps and bounds!
Could you have a few lessons on him?

After I stopped riding for a bit to do my A levels I found I was a little uneasy when it came to jumping which felt horrible cos I loved jumping. Even when I got Ellie I had only been back in the saddle for a bit. The way I overcame this is quite stupid really but there is method in my maddness, I just started thinking to myself "even if I do come off Im not gonna hurt myself, its just sand!" this in turn led to "im NOT going to fall off" really believing I wasnt gonna fall. It seems to be working so far cos ive sat a few nasty stops and a couple of bloomin good cat leaps :D I think it depends what youre scared of, if you like you say, youre scared of physically hurting yourself, because youve had a bad fall then its harder to overcome this. I think lessons are a good idea if you can take some (and defintley a better idea than my methods :D ) Confidence comes from practise, by taking things slow and doing smaller fences you will jumping baz over anything in no time :)

lol nat! i glad it is coming back the horse works so hard when he has confidence in its rider!
I will have lessons but i got to travel to hire an arena as i have no facilites at all, i can use the land in the summer but not in the winter.
I know he can jump it is just me being able to jump with him?!
KatieB i did that on saturday- "i will not fall off i will not fall off" and i finally jumped a 3ft log on him! He jumped it beautifuly as always- that is one thing he wont let me down with-scope and neatness. Never used to bless him he has only started becoming tidy through show jumping competitions. I know i will get there but it is taking time.
Lessons lessons lessons is the only answer i suppose!
Thanks for replying you two really appreciate it:D

See, you are doing fine :) A lot of people wont jump at all through fear but you sound like you are already doing decent sized fences. I would practise jumping courses of a height that you are comfortable with, or if you havent got that many jumps (like me) try pulling logs out and balancing branches on stuff on regular hacking routes. Once you are both jumping a certain height with no problems then move up a bit :)
