firstlty what a brill forum. adults who ride ponies.
i used to own a 13.1 who was the best (in my eyes).we didnt win alot but what fun i had on him.we were picked for our riding club to be in the novice jumping team, which we competed at stoneleigh at the national finals.yes he was the smallest"horse" there and we got a lovely"ooooooooohhh how sweet "when we entered the arena.we always competed against bigger horses as i did all riding club activiates.we did prelim & novice dressage tests(once beening judged by fiona craig international dressage rider),and lots of one day events coming 5th 2 years running.people always asked me "when are you going to buy a proper horse",i laughed and them and told them i'm having too much fun on lucky.unfortunaly i'm ponyless at the mo ,but when the time comes again will i browning the 16.2s no just the pony section.carry on riding the ponys and manly have lots of fun .:D

aww sounds like he was a lil sweetie and you had loads of fun!
hope you find another pony soon ;)
ive had my lil fella for 11 years! and wouldn't look back 2x we have loads of fun! and hes more than capable of carrying me! we get odd looks off snooty folks who think i should be riding big horses! but whilst there schooling there nags for hours at a time to calm them down before a ride im off having fun! albeit with no brakes at times  we shall continue to have fun & compete at our local riding club! where adults on ponies isn't a rare sight fortunately! :D In fact a lot of the smaller classes for novice horses etc., are usually taken up by nervous adults on ponies, or adults on ponies having a laugh!

Joy, Tupluck,
So good to read such positive post on adults with pony's. After years of working with blood horses and long time out i've spend the last year with the most rewarding times owning a 13.2 sec C pony, i'm 5.1 + 10st max. I nearly sold him because i thought i was too big, but most kids are bigger than me, so i thought why break my heart and sell him when i know he'll take me to were ever i want to go.
i would like to do a bit riding club what do u think. I did have a fright the other day though, i weighed my saddle and it was near 1st with the girth ect.
Its so true when you were saying about the snobery from adults with there big horses, my little though is, whats so clever in buying a bigger motor when you can't reverse the bloody thing and the engine size cost twice the petrol and parts ????

Good to hear from another pony fan, my riding pony Rupert is a 13.2hh New Forest type and I am 5ft and about 9.5 stone. I was looking for a 14.2hh-15.2hh but have always had ponies and felt much happier on Rupert than on the bigger ones where I felt like a pea on a drum :D

Can't go wrong with ponies! :D Ponies can do everything big horses can do, and it's not so far to fall. I love their naughty little sense of humour, and the butter wouldn't melt look that every pony seems to be born with :D Ponies rule :D

shouldn't worry bout your weight too much, if hes coping o.k. then thats fine!
at my heaviest i weighed 10stone 7lbs, and he still jumped 3' fences with me at home & we competed at the riding club too. im now 8stone 7lbs and he hasn't reacted in any way different to the weight loss!

I'm also an adult who rides a pony. I used to have a 12.3hh now I've got a 14hh (nearer 14.2) Fell gelding. I find ponies are far less likely to panic in (what they percieve) to be a frightening situation. They can turn their hoof to anything a horse can, they cost less to feed and tend to have more of a character and sense of fun! Yes, Ponies do indeed rule!!!! (Shame on me at my age)!
They are definitely cheaper to keep and most suffer no ill effects if you suddenly find yourself without a stable and you have to put the pony out in a field. Myself, I dont like keeping ponies in, they seem to prefer living out, although the finer bred ones probably benefit from being in. I've always had natives and they are definitely better off living out.

I think its personal opinion versus size.
I am a horse person, but prefer smaller horses. In my own experience, I find ponies really nippy and like to kick. I prefer horses because to me, they are more gentle.
It all depends on the person. :)
