Tried and Tested! Sealskinz Gloves.

Just had to post in this new bit! Thought I'd share my experience of Sealskinz gloves (no, not real seal skin!).

These gloves are wonderful! They were first reccomended to me by Wally and Frances (who can get them for you if you want them- shameless plug!!). I didn't get mine from them as I discovered that my local tackshop had a pair in my size, so bought them there to save on the postage. (Sorry Wally and Frances!:( )

Anyway, back to the point- these gloves are WATERPROOF!

And I mean waterproof- stick you hand in a bucket of water and as long as it doesn't come above the cuff, the water wont get in!

So are rubber gloves, I hear you cry.... yes, but do they keep your hands warm and dry? Or do they either freeze your hands off or cause you to sweat in them like a sweaty thing which of course means wet hands?

Sealskinz keep your hands warm and dry- from the inside and the out, they have grippy things on the palms/fingers which makes picking things up/undoing/doing up tack a breeze and when you get the outside wet, it dries quickly.

Oh, and they are washable, so when you have forgotten you have them on and mucked out with them on, you can chuck them in the machine to freshen them up!!

Can't reccomend them highly enough, just wish I had invested in a pair years ago- no more frozen fingers whilst scooping hay out of water buckets for me!!

Just one downside...... the price, but I still think they are 100% worth it!:D

The lifeboat crew up here wear them, that's how waterproof they are, we put them onto them and they kitted the whole crew out with them.

They are great for working with silage on a cold day as your hands stay warm and DRY. Play snowballs as longas you like and they water won't get to your hands, they are good for riding in too on wet days, I wish I had had a pair in my hunting days.

I have managed to do pretty much everything I have tried to do in these gloves- rugging, un-rugging, grooming, tacking up, riding, mucking out, doing up zips, rolling a fag...... ok, I did have to take them off to roll a fag, but I think with practice I could do it! (provided they weren't wet!)

As to price..... I did warn you that they are on the expensive side, didn't I?!

I paid £21.95 for mine, but they were the last pair in the shop and I think they were 'reduced' a bit:eek: :eek:

However..... if I lost them or the dog chewed them up next week, I'd go and buy another pair like a shot..... and take much more care of the second pair!!:D ;)

IMO they are worth every penny I spent on them..... and as a student I don't chuck the odd £20 around lightly!;)

Wow, glad they are this good - i have a pair on order direct from the manufacturer (www.sealskinz.com) - should be with me sometime this week hopefully.
They are £22.49 plus i've also ordered the liners which are £4.99 (do you have the liners HC).
Having sorted out keeping my feet warm - Mountain Horse Rimfrost boots or Muck Boots Tyne Riding Wellies - if i can sort my hands out it will be just perfect:D

Good to see you back on the boards!!

I have to say, that they aren't that warm in sub-zero temps.... but I didn't get the liners! The first time I submerged my hand in the tank (to test them, like you do!!) I thought they weren't waterproof cause my hand felt cold...... then I realised that it was just cold, not wet too! I could feel the temperature of the water though them! Took the gloves off and my hands were bone dry.

I stick a pair of 'majic gloves' under mine if its really cold- I think it was wednesday last week round here that temp was well below freezing! That was the only day this winter, so far!!

If it isn't that cold I wear them on their own- they are plenty warm enough down here in the 'tropical' climes of the south west!!;) :D

I sell them in our shop and they are very popular. They cost £22.50 and come in 5 sizes - XS, S, M, L and XL. There is also a thermal liner for £5.00 which is very nice either on its own or under the glove when it snows.

I can post them for an extra £2.50 for postage.

We only sell black ones. I love them and will turn the house upsidedown if I lose them!

Anyone who is fed up of cold wet hands should have a pair. Mostly with waterproof gloves, you have hands like a bunch of bananas and you have to take off the gloves you went outside in because you can't do anything fiddly! With these, you can tack up a horse in them and do all the fiddly little buckles, no problem!
