Camorosa is pretty good, but again, very expensive!

how did you have the first sarcoid removed? Liverpool cream (from your vet) is a fairly easy and pain free way to have the sarcoid removed - at least Tango didn't object to it and she does object to vets big time! IT is quite pricey as the vet has to come out 3 tims to put the cream on and the cream costs about £60 I think.

She had it surgically removed but I wasn't keen on having it done again because she's only 2 1/2 and I don't like to have her go through too much and under anasthetic. How much is the camerosa? It cost me around £200 pound for all the treatment for the sarcoid, the checkups etc.

My mare had a sarcoid appear not so long ago. Vet said Liverpool creams were by far the most successful option. We were prescribed two different strengths costing around £120 in all, to be applied six times. He said Camrosa has mixed results - seems to work on some but not others. I'd ask your vet to write to Liverpool (they wanted a biopsy of my mare's and photographs) and see what they recommend.
On a more positive note my mare's sarcoid has completely vanished. Can't wait to see vet's face when he has a look!

Interesting. We have a horse at work with sarcoids and he has been sent away for all kinds of treatments with no success. If there are creams that are useful in removing them then perhaps it would be useful with this horse. Could someone fill me in as to what Camrosa and Liverpool creams actually are?

The Liverpool creams were developed by a guy called Derek somebody (can't remember) at the equine hospital in Liverpool, England. As far as I understand it they work in a similar way to chemotherapy (but I'm sure someone can correct me on that!).
Liverpool recommend a treatment regime based on each horse's sarcoid(s) - they take measurements, biopsies, use photographs and vet reports to decide on a suitable therapy. The creams are made up in various strengths and sold in pots. The vet under whose care the horse is has to buy the creams from Liverpool (no delivery till payment received) and also has to apply them - they cannot give the cream to an owner to apply, for example.
The success rate is high - I think around 85% - and there seems to be a lower incidence of recurrance than with other treatment methods. I'm afraid I couldn't tell you what's in them - all I know is that they're pretty potent.
Don't know an awful lot about Camorosa - someo0ne else could maybe fill you in on that one.

Hi,
I just wanted to recommend Oil Therapy as an alternative way to treat sarcoids. My last horse had numerous sarcoids which healed within a few months using Oil Therapy from a company called Geota (should be able to search for them on Google as they have a website.) I have to admit I was as sceptical as anyone when I heard about it, but was unwilling to use Camrosa or the Liverpool cream so thought this was worth a try. And it was amazing.
My new horse, which I got last October, also has one small fibroblastic sarcoid, so I contacted Geota again about treatment. It just so happened that they are currently running a clinical trial on Firoblastic Sarcoids, in collaboration with Bristol University. I managed to get Arnie on the trial as his sarcoid was the type they are looking for and he is currently mid treatment. Again, it appears to be working as the Sarcoid is shrinking and drying from the outside inwards.
I don't really know that much about how the tests are done but basically, you send off a mane sample and they then send you a range of oils which have to be licked or inhaled daily by the horse. They also give you a clay or gel made up of the same elements to be applied to the area.
I am fully aware that there will be sceptics to this type of alternative treatment but it worked for me and is worth a try if nothing else helps.

Two observations which my help:
Aloe vera helps cell reproduction...therefore my vet said she should couldn't emphasise strongly enough...."KEEP OFF IT"!! For sarcoids, if you don't want to help the sarcoid grow.
Secondly, and purely from my own pony's experience. I have a welsh secion B who had an unslightly sarcoid on her neck, so I couldn't show her. Nothing seemed to work. Had heard of the Liverpool hospital creams, but the cost rather made me stand back and take stock! Decided to put her in foal, and have a think about it....like you do! And blow me half way through pregnancy, sarcoid was smaller. The improvement was slight...I thought I was imagining it. It stopped improving once she'd foaled and stayed exactly the same. Put her in foal again next year....same thing happened. She had her third foal last summer. No sign of sarcoid. And yet it was dormant when she wasn't pregnant!
Don't know. But I believe that hormone may have played a part there. You talk to a lot of pregnant women, and they'll tell you how their hair is shinier and grows thicker and stronger in pregnancy. Acne disappears, and all sorts of wonderful things (as well as the horrible bits too!! Like morning sickness of course!!)
But it makes you wonder, doesn't it??

Maybe the mere mention of a hubby did it for Lili then! :D
It's interesting though - not just the role hormones might play but also the immune system itself. Vet reckons in-foal mares tend to develop better immune systems, which could in turn influence the way they fight off sarcoids.
Maybe we should be grateful for hormonal mares after all...

Hiya, Thankyou for all your advice I think I'll try the oil therapy as she is still young adn I haven't much moeny to keep paying for a vet if it can be avoided. Afraid I can't put her in foal as she is only 2 1/2 way too young to have a bubby as much as I'd love one. Maybe I should field her next to some potential boyfriends and it will make her take pride in her appearance :D
