How often should you clean a horse's dock? Should you do so in the winter?

Well, I am probably a bad owner, but I really don't clean my horse's docks unless they are getting a bath (only in the summer). Then I hose down both their teats and under their tails. You should see the looks they give me...makes it all worthwhile...

I clean my horses dock after every ride. Bath him in the summer, but in the winter, I just dampen it down with a spounge, enough so I can clean it. Then I dry the dock with a rag, so he doesn't get a chill.

Thank you for your input (Allie and Maci). Anyone else out there, would you mind sharing your dock-cleaning schedules with me? Thank you!

I clean the horse's dock each time I groom. I pick out the hooves, brush the coat and legs, gently use a body brush on the face, use a sponge around the eyes and nose, brush the mane, clean the dock (with a different sponge to that used on the face!), brush the tail and put on a tail bandage. The tail bandage is removed before I ride.

Docks? In winter, rarely (unless particularly mucky or sweaty). In summer - a few times when they have baths, or if I hose down after a sweaty ride. Should probably do it every day though.
