I bought my horse late last year and want to bring him into jumping has anyone got any advice

start slowly. what experience has he/you had of jumping? how old is he?

i taught mine to jump last year, we are getting there slowly!

He's 9 and used to do riding lessons and a small amount of hunting he jumps when loose in the school all on his own and really enjoyed it even though it wasn't asked for!!

I've been riding for 9 years and avent jumped for a while now

it sounds like you are both a little more advanced than we were when we started so you may well skip through a lot of the early stages but you could through them anyway just in case.

Start off with some trotting poles and if he's happy going over then (and you practice your 2 point) turn the last in the line into a small cross pole. Your horse should jump that. Keep practicing that until you are happy, your horse is happy and you are able to keep to a rythmn. Next put up another x pole after the first one and your horse should trot over the pole, jump the first and canter into the second. Finally remove the trotting poles and see if he will trot into it in the same rythmn.

Dont be concerned with height at this stage just get used to this, approacing off different
