View Full Version : How do you use trailer ties?

I bought one at the weekend and went to use it but it baffled me (I am blond so please forgive me). One end has this strange clip thing on it and the other a normal headcollar clip type thing. Are you suppose to clip the odd bit to bailer twine or what? It seemed to be a bit long if I did that so I put it back in its back and made do with my good old fashioned lead rope!
Someone please put me out of my misery.:(

You've got it right. Well, thats how I do it anyway.
The odd clip (which you have to pull down on to open it and then the "claw" comes loose) gets attached to the trailer via twine for safety and the regular end is used for clipping to the halter.
A nifty thing I use the ties for is I have one hung permanently in Bon's stall so if the posts (or crossties) are all occupied, I can tie him up in his stall and groom/tack there.

Glad I was right, it just seemed too long, he was able to turn his head right round and I've always been taught to tie up quite short in a trailer. Good at least I know how to use it now, I always like to check I'm doing things right 'cos you never know how 1 stupid mistake can backfire!

erm, i'm sure the ones at my yard have the safety end, with the claw looking thingy, attached to the headcollar so you can unattach if they panic, and the other bit on the bailer twine. i don't use them though, i prefer an ordinary leqadrope and bailer twine.
I'm sure the length of our ones are adjustable
