View Full Version : Girths - recommendations, please!

Hello!

Having just become the proud owner of HC's HM Easi-sit saddle, I am about to buy a razzy new girth to go with it (it being brown and all my existing stuff being black).

I have read various posts about girths and where the elastic ought to be and given that Murphster is slightly girthy (well, bless him, all he actually does is look around at me with raised eyebrows and a hurt expression when it comes to the last hole, but I don't want it developing any further than that!) and has very sensitive skin, I'd like to buy the kindest one possible for him.

Are the Aerborn 'Humane' girths as humane as they make out or is there a better one on the market? Padded or plain? Ordinary or dressage (what's the difference?!)? roller buckles or ordinary ones? Leather or synthetic?

At the moment I've got a Thorowgood Airoform girth and whilst it's okay, if there's something better out there I'd like to hear about it!

NB the easi-sit saddle is part synthetic, if that makes a difference!

Several people at my yard have the 'humane' girths and think they're a good idea, but I've never used one myself. A dressage girth is a lot shorter than an ordinary girth and designed for use only on dressage saddles

I use the humane girths and would recommend them.

I think they are great and would highly recommend them to anyone. No rubbing or chafing and no objections when girthing Safi.
I use one with my Easisit btw.

I'm another Aerborne Humane girth fan, same reasons as larri.
Definately get the thumbs up from me and Jake

No mistake they are suede / leather and synthetic all in one!

the top panels and seat are suede and leather and the under panels are synthetic, mine then has the serge underneath - lovely and warm for her - but an absolute b**ger to clean hair off (I don't use saddle cloths)

I have a aerborn humane one and a thorowgood airoform one and I like them both:) The humane one is Rupert's thin girth and the airoform one is his fat girth :D (no particular reason they are that way around I just wanted to try both and as he alters dramatically in size he needs two )

I like the Wintec Chafeless, it's wide, shaped and the elastic is in the middle rather than at one end, where it should be. Rio is quite particular about girths and gets on well with this one. Not tried a humane on our 'normal' saddle but they are a bit narrow and we seem better off in an elasticated girth.

I use the aerborn humane girth and find it good - nice and easy to do up on a fattie and doens't seem to rub

I also ahve a stubben leather which is very soft and never had problems with it

I haven't used the Humane girth. Like Yann I use the Wintec. There is a degree of elastication all the way through it. They do a standard shape one and one shaped to give more room for shoulder movement. I use the shaped one and Patrick seems very happy.

Another vote for the aeroborn humane- HC has his moments when it comes to girthing, but I have never had a problem with the humane- he likes it, it is easy to do up and one of those will definitely work with your saddle Lovecat..... cause that's what I used with it!:D

Do humane girths come in dressage lengths?

Yann

Yes, if memory serves, 28" is the largest size which was too small for Rio once but isn't now:)

What have you bought that needs a dressage girth then?:)

I only ever use leather girths with elasticated ends. The atherstone style. My current is a Jeffries atherstone elasticated girth with roller ends (so doesn't wear at the girth straps and does up easier). It was £35, which isn't expenisve for leather and I love it. Its soft and so easy to clean and looks good too. Flyte used to be VERY girthy as before I got him he was in a saddle with a broken tree and his old owner would yank his girth up really tight (I saw her do it every time I tried him). When I got him I had him in just a normal girth as at the time as I'd bought so much other stuff for him I couldn't afford a leather one, and he continued to be girthy. I eventually got his leather one and we couldn't of used it a week and he doesn't batter and eye lid when I do his girth now. So I would strongly recommend it!!

Aerborn humane, a cottage craft standard girth (which Sasha hates!) and two leather girths. Annie has a leather atherston with elasticated ends.

I also use the wintec on my youngster and she seems really comfortable in it and I haven't noticed any rubbing or chafing under it :)

My dressage girth in the wintec and I really like them to. Nice and soft and Flytey seems happy in it too.

I havent said anything as I havent wanted to tempt fate..but as it comes on Tuesday anyway...

An HM Flexion SBS Treeless!!!

In dressage style so I obviously need a new girth(s). Im a bit torn because I have a gorgeous black elasticated atherstone which was an Xmas prezzy a few years ago but being 48" is a bit impractical! I love leather girths but can't fork out on a new one just yet, so I have bought a cheapy Cottage Craft off eBay for now which will hopefully fit although its anyone's guess lol! Will probably get a humane one as I cant see my finances allowing a leather one just yet.

PS Big thanks to Shaka, who is fundraising for charity and has kindly said she'd like to fundraise for the saddle. Without this I havent a clue what Kal and I would be doing right now as I couldnt afford it without her kind offer!!

tasha I've got a 25inch Black Wintec Chafeless dressage girth. Not brand new but excellent condition, nothing at all wrong with it just to small for Flyte now he's got a new dressage saddle, I can send photos of it. I'm selling it for £15 incl p&p (was £30 new) if your interested, even if its just for now.

I have a humane girth and a wintec chafeless one. They're both great in their own rights.I use the wintec one in the winter and the humane one in summer because the wintec makes my mare sweats terribly it and it also marks after hard work. The humane is great for summer as it's really comfy. my mare is very sensitive but she never 'snatches' when i do the humane girth up,you can just throw it in the wash afer a sweaty ride and it comes out lookin like new.I use the wintec one if i do a dressage test as it's a lot smarter than the humane one and it does look like a leather girth when it's on.So basically i use the humane for everyday hacking and the wintec for comps. Both are well worth the money and i would not buy any other girth now apart from these 2. Happ girthing up!! :) :D :)

Hi,
Can someone tell me where to buy an Aerborn Humane Girth in the US ?
I need a size 56" in black and can't seem to locate one.
If there are no sellers in the US, then where should I buy for best price and have it shipped to me ?
thanks so much
Diane :)

You might be better off posting your question in the Cafe area, or the Tack area, as it's more likely to be seen, this thread is rather old and dead now. :)
