Well after all the battles with Madam over the last few months, which tbh had me not only wondering why I was putting myself through all the cr*p, but seriously considering selling my dream horse and giving up for good  I have now got a new instructor who has Safi sussed completely and we are improvong again :D

She actually lives on the livery yard I'm at and I was chatting to her about the major issues we had and booked a lesson on the off chance.....well Safi has really met her match. Two weeks on and I can't believe the difference. No all out war every time I get on, and more and more good work every session. Safi is even being a lot calmer to handle generally.

The secret -??? Calm, patient and quietly insistant riding, now why couldn't I get it before

Last night was brilliant, apart from a few (completely ignored) Paddies - including throwing in some Spanish Trot when the other two horses left the school :p, Safi worked very hard and when she stopped fussing we had this amazing BIG trot, totally soft & round and really working through her back - wowsers I got my horse back :D :D :D

Wow that's fantastic - you clearly have just the right attitude to be with horses, so don't give up!

Whoohoo! :D Sounds brilliant - well done - and well done your instructor! :D Sometimes that person on the ground just adds that bit of insight that helps to sort out a problem :D

Well done! I'm so glad to hear that you two are making progress and that you found a good trainer with whom both of you seem to click.

I am actually almost gobsmacked at the difference in her way of going - yesterday I hacked her out and she was calm and willing and accepting a soft contact virtually the whole time:D Even when faced with the 8 acre "gallopy field" she remained between my legs & hands - I felt totally in control (last time she unceremoniously took off at full pelt)
