My horse dreamer was abused when he was 1-2(Not completly sure)I got him at 2 and he's now 5.He's basicly gotten over it;maybe more headshy than normal but thats to be expected.

The only major thing left that stems from the abuse is the fact that he hates men.
Literally it's either attack or run.He boards at a large stable,so meeting men is totally unavoidable and having him at my home is not possible(I live in a city)We moved him to a quiet area of the barn where there are only boarders, and rarely men.
The problem is that i cannot relax on a trail or show him because im afraid he'll take off or hurt himself.
I cannot show him untill i fix this,he's just too dangerous.I have tried getting him used to one guy, having them feed him,and just trying to get him to assosiate men with everything he likes.

Nothing works.
Every time he's either started rearing and we have to give up because he's going to hurt someone.Dreams got good manners exept for this one thing.
Anyone got any ideas?

Hey,

I have a mare like this. She was older tho but being young it should be a little easier to correct. Some horses never get comfortable with guys again but should improve over time!just have some guys try and work with her/him make try and make shure it will be a good experince and not a bad one just do little things at a time.

Send the horse to a ground trainer (a male) who is competent in dealing with emotional issues in horses; specifically, dealing with fear. A trainer who is knowledgeable and competent with "natural horsemanship" methods.

Basically, the horse must learn not to fear men; and you cannot teach him to manage his fear by introducing him to men. He needs to learn that he can interact on a regular basis with men (training), without fear.

I'll repeat that the trainer must be competent at resolving fear in a horse; and not use the traditional, forceful methods.

Having done this myself, I can tell you that the primary problem is to get him to change his mind regarding men; and the direct, traditional horse training methods usually don't work; for the simple reason that that's what got the horse where it is.

Best regards,
Harry

Wow that's an extream reaction, something realy horid must have happened to her.

My horse has a preferance for women. He is just more stuborn with men. But that might be becuase he has maily encountered hard handed men. I had a male ride him a few weeks ago and he was very good, I think he just needed a male who would be genlty and not try and dominate him.

Good luck with your horse.
