Does anyone use a coat shine that actually works?? Ive tried canter coat shine and the gold label one and neither of them did a great deal on baby's coat. She's chestnut, does a particular brand of coat shine work better on chestnut horses?

A healthy diet with good grooming should give the coat a natural shine, shouldnt need 'cosmetics' ;)

Hello everyone- I use Canter coat shine from carr day & Martin- it works very well, and leaves the coat feeling like silk! Even if you get it on your own hands you will see it leaves a thin layer and it will look very shiny- like clear nail polish and feel very smooth. If you do not wash your horse then the spary will last about 3-4 days. I also like the smell. Another good thing is that it does not attract dust, and because the horses coat will become so smooth, it is very easy to brush of.
However the most important things, as someone else mentioned above, are 1. good grooming, 2. Healthy diet. If your horse has a bad coat I can highly recommend BIO BLOOM- a supplement to improve coat and hooves. We always feed it to our sales horses- it really makes them look in top condition- but ofcourse it is fed on top of a well balanced nutrituous feed & hay.
The coat shine should never be used as a "short cut" instead of grooming. We groom atleast 2 X a day and ensure our horses coats are kept short- if they become to long we clip- after clipping I like to use a soft curry or "massage" brush- the round ones- which I find more gentler then the regular curry comb- But it is important to curry clipped horses!! If not you will get a really thick coat back.
Anyways back to the coat shine. Use it AFTER full grooming to add that extra bit of shine- don't use it instead of grooming!

aasorbine, spray it on til the coat is damp, let it dry then buff it with a fleecy buffer!
but coat shines only work on clean, health hair, true shine comes from the inside! lots of grroming between shows!
this is stan, he is groomed for an hour a day! i use the asorbine stuff!

and this is him straight out of the field! as you can see his shine comes naturally and coat shine is just a top up!

Zinc is the thing needed for healthy coats in a horse's diet just to let you know. If your gunna change the feed, try finding something that has a lot of Zinc in it. It give healthy and shiny coats!

I use Show Sheen on show days, but luckily my horse doesn't really need it, it's more of a coat to keep the dust off!

My show pony just GLEAMS with health. He has Linseed oil during the show season just for an added boost. If you should still need a shine enhancer try Flyaway Show Shimmer, best I have ever seen.
