I have heard of some peopel saying they wrap there horses taisl up in winter. if so how and why? just to keep clean?

I saw this when I was in Michegan ages ago - it was to help the tails grow long for showing, as they were washed and conditioned and then wrapped.
I actually then adopted it myself - but for different reasons - muddy fields ! By wrapping the bottom part of the tail it kep it out of the mud and kept the tails clean and in much better condition. Top part stays unwrapped so they still have protection against wind, snow, rain etc.
Don't need to do it now, as we have our own land which is relatively mud-free.... If I was going to show my Appy mare I might be tempted so her tail would be a bit more impressive, but for an appy she has quite a good tail anyway.
