can you help guys- got new (first) ned. He came with crusty white scabs size of small pea on shoulder- owner said 'fly bites' and vet said 'dermatitus' they cleared up and dropped off, skin underneath pink and healthy, treating with Aloe Vera. Now he has some more break out along neck and hindquaters. Ones on butt are pea size and ones on neck are teeny tiny. Again, white crust has come off with grooming, he doesnt rub them and they are dry, no discharge, also (weirdly) all on one side of his body! - what are they? Anyone know? And how can i prevent it breaking out again? Any help most welcome.

Could be an allergy! Maybe food related. Had a horse some years ago that couldn't tolerate foods with barley in - came out in arash that sounds similar.

One of mine is allergic to apples, if he has more than one he comes out in a rash (like nettle rash, lots of little bumps), that just comes up on one side of his neck too, under his mane. He is also allergic to certain fly repellants. So the allergic reaction angle is certainly one to follow up, has he had anything/ been anywhere unusual lately?

They wouldn't be a reaction to tick bites would they?

Holly has come up in bumps exactly the same as these this week! Last weekend she only had one or two now she is covered in them over her back and rump. She has been rugged all this week and they are all under her rug area. Someone did suggest bites someone else an allergy. I am using benzol on her for her sweet-itch and I also tried the Avon Bath oil as suggested on here as a repellent. That's the only thing I can think that mayhave caused an allergic reaction, although I was using it a few weeks before these lumps appeared.
They are hard and crusty and she is very twitchy when you touch them. I am going to try some aloe vera on her today as they are obviously bothering her lots.
Hackedoff - how is your horse now? What are you treating him with? I will take some pics of Holly's bumps this afternoon so you can see if they are the same.

Lice? It's the season to start noticing them now summer coats are coming through. Their favourite places are around the root of the tail and the mane. Get powder from tack shop or agricultural merchants and follow the directions. You can also get special shampoos but the powder is better.

my friends horse had a allegic reaction in the field the other week, he came up with loads of lumps and as they went left scabby bits, she gave him a hibi scrub bath, and this got rid of most of it
